As some of you may know, one of my breeding goals (one of many) is to breed a true rainbow. I have clearwings, I have greywings, I have opalines and yellowfaces, all I wanted/needed now was some dilutes. I have been searching and searching, also just because I absolutely LOVE dilutes and earlier this year I lost my only dilute hen when she escaped through a hole in the roof of the aviary. No one can replace my beautiful Gandalf but today I found these 2 gorgeous girls. I believe they are sky opaline spangle dilute and grey opaline spangle dilute. There was a recessive pied cock from the same clutch so they are probably split rec. pied too.

Opinions? Do I finally have my precious dilutes?

I'm sorry I can't help you with their mutations (never had or seen dilutes in real life).
I just wanted to say that your new budgie girls are absolutely beautiful!

i like these Dilutes

They seem to be GREY Dilutes. You can breed them with non-spangles and you will get 50% spangles and 50% non-spangles.

My opinion is forget about the Rec. pied. You should try and produce
Goldenface Cobalt Opaline Dilute Violet(sf) (SPLIT Grey)
or
Goldenface Cobalt Opaline Dilute Spangle Violet(sf) (SPLIT Grey)

In other words, add Cobalt (1 Darkness factor) and Violet factor. Check out the attached photo. If you have a male Mauve (2 Darkness factors) then all the babies will be Cobalt (1 Darkness factor)

Any thoughts with whom you will breed them with???

They were certainly hard to find, I guess that's understandable when you think about the fact that dilute is recessive to so many mutations. I'm very excited to have found them

I know it's an awful picture of the second hen but she's definitely blue with violet cheek patches, the photo is not true to life. I don't have any better because as I was trying to transfer her to her cage she bit me, twisted out of my hands and flew around the room a few times before I managed to catch her. By that point she was stressed and I left her alone to settle in. I'll try and get better pics tomorrow (it's 11pm right now).

Grey is a dominant gene, it can only be visual, not split but she will be single factor grey so she would produce blue and grey chicks.

I'll probably pair them with the offspring of my clearwings which, if all goes well, will be sky yf II fbc greywings split opaline and sky yf II split opaline and clearwing.

More than anything I'm just happy to finally have some dilutes!

Thanks for your input

I can't wait to see what sort of babies you will produce

Don't pair them up with another Spangle. You might get Double factor Spangles which are totally white.

If you pair them with a male Greywing /Clearwing you will get 50% Greywing /Dilute ,and, 50% Clearwing /Dilute.

Hello, it’s really hard to say about mutation of the birdies when they have very light or no markings. It could be dilute, verity of pied, could be some of the double factors, ect. The best way to know for sure - the coloring of babies, by that you can get the answer (99%) on parent’s mutation. Love your birdies, very nice and relaxing color.

What absolute stunners! !!!!

There is a guy called Morty up here in QLD who could probably answer your question....his number is: 0754945944 and he would talk to you about possible mutations to get what you are after. He has his phone number on his web page, so it is not a secret

Best of luck!!

I don't know a thing about mutations but I know a beautiful budgie when I see one, they are just stunning.
