YF type 2, dominant pied.
colour is COBALT, but it might be SLATE which is rare to find. The colour is too dark blue. Some other suggestions would be useful.

Without a bright white light on him he is VERY grey! I was thinking slate, but I'm just not too sure.

Hi again! I can take a guess at his mutation, I think he is a yellow face mauve dominant pied budgie. He is also very young, his baby bars are up to the cere, he must be fresh from just turning 3 months old.

Mauve is a different colour, so i don't think he is mauve. He seems like a Cobalt, but he seems closer to Slate.

We will need some daylight photos and if possible daylight photos of the parents.

I can try and get some daylight photos tomorrow but photos of the parents is impossible as he was bought from the petstore I work at. Young ones are brought into us from a specific breeder. I doubt they would have photos of the parents or if they'd even know which budgies are the parents. Also just looking at photos of colbalt budgies, he doesn't look that blue in person. He is definitley a grey blue.

Check Cute little birdies aviary website and go to the colour mutation page, the one that says "dark factors on blue". I still think your budgie is mauve coloured based from those pics. And pied budgies have a bit of colour dilution also and that affects their overall body colours.

I honestly did look thru it, he (to me anyways) is right in between a mauve and a slate... It really depends on the light he is in.

Yes, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to tell you for sure. From those pics he looks too dark to be just cobalt.
