They are both boys

Percy is a sky blue greywing

Loki is a bit trickier, he looks to be a combination pied, possibly greywing too, I'd guess cobalt.

Since you can't breed 2 boys I won't answer that question :p

haha thank you :)

they are both nearly 9 moths old :P

looks like i will be getting a pair of hens soon then :P

with them being "normal" budgies, would they get along with English budgies?

also are they rare mutations or common? :P
:budgie:

Of course they will get along :p

English budgies and American budgies are just (Size) types of budgies.
They are the same.:D:budgie::budge:

English are bigger, Americans are smaller.

I have no Idea how common they are in the world but
where I am, there are no English in the whole country!
But there are lot of english/american mix here.
I have few..

But I have to add you have two gorgeous boys:D

haha thank you :)
i originally got told that loki was the male and percy was a female.....and also the other way round :P

we will hopefully be looking to get more soon, so i will make sure i get 2 hens :P
they will be going in an aviary we have built along with zebra and Bengal finches......and possibly a pair of cockatiels, however to introduce them they will be going into breeding cages that will be in the aviary......but that wont be for a couple of months yet :P

also....sorry to keep asking questions but..
if i was to get a female like loki and pair her up with percy, what kind of colors could i expect?
the breeder i got them both off always has weird colors like loki's stripes, so i might be able to get a female one :P

Allie is correct about their mutations.

:) hahaha it's funny how people in other countries name budgies with what they think is right. Only Americans call them "American budgies". Actually they should be called Australian budgies, where they originate and the size is the normal small size budgies.

Just a note... People in other non-USA countries just call them budgies (the normal ones) and the ones which are bigger, call them "English" or "Exhibition" budgies. They are all the same species just taller. Some breeders only mated the taller/bigger size budgies and nowdays we have a bigger variety of budgies with fluffy head. It's like some humans who are born tall and then have babies with other tall people.

Personally i preffer the small budgies over the bigger ones as they breed more often and more than 5 eggs every 2 months and are more hardy. The English/Exhibition budgies breed slower, less eggs and are heavier so they can have accidents more easily. Exhibition budgies are also way more expensive.

What some people do is breed exhibition male budgies with smaller size female budgies. That way they produce more eggs and more babies that are a bit bigger. Important note: breeders trim the bottom feathers of the male budgies so that males are sure to fertilize the eggs of female budgies.

Hope this info helps you.

It's funny how English budgies are more expensive in other countries. Here the are the same cost and popularity.

I wouldn't recommend 2 English girls if you wish to breed. Imagine how hard it would be for the little male to mount a hen twice his size or more? :p English/pet mixes usually involve pet hen and English cock. If they are not for breeding then 2 English girls would be fine :)

I wouldn't go back to same breeder for a hen with similar coloring unless the breeder is sure they wouldn't be related. Greywings are not rare mutations to answer that question.

If you were to pair up 2 birds with mutations like this you would get some normal grey wings and some dominant pied, sky blue and cobalt.

Yes i agree. It is exactly what i wrote. You could breed male Exhibition budgies with smaller hens.

English budgies cost 3 times more expensive here where i live :(

Vargur 05-12-2014 03:26 PM

Where I live we just call the "normal one" Budgies (Gári) and the "bigger" english budgies.
We never call them American, I just do it here in the forum:p (because everybody else do it:D)

Loki is just gorgeous, Odin would be proud of him.;)
