ok, thanks guys, so its not rare, Im just not putting it into that calculator correctly....

Spyromon, that is the best explanation I could have asked for, thankyou.
I did notice that the calculator does not differentiate between type/sf/df/etc...

So let me continue my question:
It was mentioned that one of you has a yf grey ENGLISH budgie...
Is this a mutation that is usually only seen in the bigger english-type birds?

All the pics of your guys' birds are gorgeous, I just love the yellow face birds and I wish my entire flock had it
Budgiekeet, that bird is exactly like what I want

lol, whenever I think I am starting to understand the genetic aspects of this, I find that I am usually way off base....

Lol, hopefully one day ill be able to wrap my brain around it all...

But, I DID kinda sound like I knew what i was talking about the other day when I "explained" it all to my friend

The calc is annoying when trying to input sf or df yellowface I, II and goldenface

If you select Goldenface and then split the bird for blue, it will be sf and if you select Goldenface and don't select the bird as split for blue, it will be df. I don't know why it's set up that way but it works The same for BlueII and yellowface

Grey in general seems to be more popular a mutation for show type Budgies than pet types. I only have 1 grey pet hen and 6 English greys!

If you found a grey English cock and put it with one of your pet type yellowface hens you could get the mutation you want though and a bunch of cute fluffy 50/50 pet/show babies.

Im using part of this long weekend to get down to grab a few more nice big english budgies!

Im really hoping the nice lady has a yellowface for me down there, I didnt ask because then it would dash my hopes if she said no.

I know for a fact she has colors other than grey, meaning greens and blues....

Lol, Im excited!
The plan is to get 2 more pairs

Smile Yellowface

I have one for you.

The grand parents of cock: White DEC hen
Dark green/split blue/split rec pied cock
Hen: yfII Dec cock
white Dec hen
the budgie parents are: Hen: yfII sky violet Rec Pied
Cock: Cobalt violet Frosted Dutch Pied

Produced in 2 clutches: 9
2 White Dec hens
1 cobalt violet frosted Dutch Pied cock
1 yfII mauve frosted Dutch Pied cock
2 violet normal/ possible rec pied split cocks
(tiny spot of white feathers on back of head)
1 cin sky hen
1 cobalt cock
1 yfII cin grey hen

The cinnamon was hidden until f3 generation, but not unexpected since most lines have cinnamon for feather quality.
There are literally thousands of possible extensions of the DEC and instead of going for increased size with a Rec pied split. the frosted cock was put back to a rec pied hen. this forced the frosting to show almost immediately, instead of at 8 months for the original frosted cock. The f3 chicks are not huge like original frosted cock but respectable in size. The problem comes in trying to increase size breeding up to a normal or split rec pied hen. Hopefully the renewed interest in the frosted pied will break through this problem. Have fun. I am still scratching my head, but being thankful for our Jumping Jack Frost. Best wishes, Jo Ann

YF Greys are very lovely birds. If you start with a yellow face and a grey your chances are very good to get one.

Man, I didnt get down there this weekend, I found a cockatiel in the tree in my front yard on friday night, she was talking to my birds through the window!

She jumped right onto my finger, and seemed very happy to be brought inside.
Ill make another post about this

Jo Ann, I am not sure what all that is all about, are you saying you have a yellowface grey available?
If so, I am very interested...im guessing shipping would come into play, its getting hot out...?
If not, then I am totally misunderstanding your reply

Dries, I really want yellow face birds, but I also want the english size...
IF i ever actually do a planned breeding, I do not want to mix the 2 sizes.
Id rather wait to find a better candidate to use

And I would love to find a way to get my yellow-faced AND yellow-winged birds I want

No , I do not have a yellowface available. I was demonstrating a typical senerio
to produce yellowface Yellow face is easy once you get one in the line. the same with cinnamon, and even the dark factor violet, mauve. olive. Lat year a beautiful yellowface sky dilute showed up unexpectedly in darker line color with no warning that the dilute was there. All I need now is a clearwing, hopefully blue series to produce a rainbow. Lots of times potentials just pop up to produce wonderful surprises. None of our yellow face are for sale as they are part of the Dec/frosted line and there just are not enough to divest as yet.
California has a lot of English shows and breeders. Check the BAA and ABS
web sites for dates and places as there are often budgies for sale at shows.
The grand national is in September in California. and there will be contact info
for breeders who may have yellowface for sale. Best wishes, Jo Ann
