So the other day, my friend asked me if there could be a grey budgie with a yellowface...
I looked on CuteLittleBirdies website, and saw that indeed there is such a thing...
I then tried to use the Genetic Calculator to see if this combo is something I would be able to produce(if I felt so inclined), and it seems that there is very low probability in getting a grey yellowfaced budgie....
After thinking about it for a while, I don't believe I have actually seen a YF Grey budgie in person, ever...
Then, Id need 2 of those birds to HOPEFULLY get to a yellowface grey on 2nd generation:
Genetic Calculator 1.3
Species: Budgerigars Melopsittacus undulatus - result

Im guessing that with the birds I currently have, I would be forced to do some line-breeding to get the results i would want.
This doesnt seem like a very good idea... inbreeding for only an 18% chance from 2nd generation...

Please consider the following:
First of all you need to know the type of Yellowface (type 1,type 2, or Goldenface). Secondly you need to know if it is Single factor or Double factor Yellowface which the calculator DOES NOT have and i ended up with babies without Yellowface from two YF parents. So you need to put the one dot to Yellowface and the other to SPLIT BLUE
Also the Calculator gives a mistake. When you select one budgie as Dominant Grey (also select the BLUE) and then select the other something else, and then select the option "Visual Only (no Splits)" it will show you the Dom. Grey(df) , where it should have shown Dom. Grey(sf)
in general when you put a non-YF with any YF(sf) to breed you have 25% chanses of getting a YF(sf).
if you breed a non-YF with any YF(df) you will get 50% oof babies YF(sf).
Note that YF are only considered budgies of the Blue series.
Forgot to mention that Grey-Green is hard to recognise in greens. Note that the Grey you are mentioning is from the Blue series (you didn't add that on the calculator for both budgies), and adding YF which only exists in the Blue series is not so rare. Also note that Mauves look a lot like Greys. Like the attached photos (a juvenile YF Mauve Dilute Opaline)
