Default Finally Have Some English Pairs

So, after many, many months of soul searching and research I've decided I want to try to breed a few English/Exhibition budgies. Initially for the pet trade. They are about as rare as hens teeth in my area.

I now have four potential pair.

I have varying degrees of info on these birds. Allie has helped me quite a bit, but I would love any more assistance on the parents, but most particularly on options on offspring. I'll do one pair per post. They are all named after Tolkien Characters.

This first pair was already posted in New Budgies. They are bonded and have had two clutches together. Resulting in a couple similar to dad, a couple like mom and a light grey (from what I can tell - previous owners didn't know any correct terminology).

Finwe - Cock - Sky Blue Spangle. May have violet as the back of his head and his cheek patches are purple though it doesn't show in the picture. Opaline?

Miriel - Hen - Maybe Grey Green Opaline Texas Clearbody? SF Grey, split for blue due to offspring.

Default Pair Two

Pretty much everyone is moulting at the moment, so excuse the messy feathers!

Aragorn: Cock - Dark Green Spangle - Split for Blue - Violet?

Posing with his lady love:

Arwen: Hen - Cobalt Yellow Face

Sorry, the pictures are so large, I thought I sized them down.

Really hoping for a cobalt or violet cobalt YF spangle kitty of this pair!

What a great bunch of English birdies you have! I love them all but the first pair is my favourite.

Miriel is definitely split for blue if she has had blue offspring

Aragorn isn't a yellowface, he looks to be violet green. That's why he has that interesting shade of blueish green

Congrats on your new birds!

The last four I haven't decided for sure how to pair off yet. Both of the hens are still too young. But I'd love some input on which girls you'd eventually put with which guys and why!

Ladies first! I've already posted this little girl.

Galadriel - Hen - English/American cross - Per Lindsey - Violet Mauve, Cinnamon, SF Yellowface II, SF Dom.Pied, SF. Spangle. I now think I'll be pairing her with Duilin below.

Nellas - Hen - Grey Green Pied

And the last two boys!

Legolas is a Cobalt Yellowface and Arwen's brother

Duilin is one of my favorites. Sadly his color doesn't show at all with the flash. He a mauve and probably also violet. Spangle as well.

Thanks for looking! I'm a proud new mom. In addition, I'd love to know what I might be able to expect and any ideas on whom to pair with who!

Wow that just got even better I'm totally in love with Galadriel and Duilin.

Which you pair together is really up to you. There is no right or wrong choice If you had something specific in mind that you wanted, that's another story though.

Thanks Allie! I'm pretty tickled with them all. I wondered about Aragorn, but he actually came from a knowledgeable breeder and that's how he had him written down.

I love Galadriel and Duilin as well. I wasn't even going to look at crosses but had to have Galadriel. Duilin was the most expensive bird I bought but I love his color, markings and build. He's a really big, laid back boy and should be very poofy when he finishes his moult!

Question about Galadriel. I really think she's a dilute. But because dilute is recessive the only way for her to produce a visual dilute chick would be to cross her with either a visual dilute for guaranteed dilute or a split to dilute for a 50 percent chance, correct? In which case I should really take that out of the equatioN all together when determining how to cross her.... I hope that made sense, LOL. Maybe at some point I can find another dilute to cross with her. After a few clutches I should have a better understanding of what she really has going on anyway...

Being a knowledgeable breeder doesn't mean you always get the mutations right His yellow is far too deep to be yellowface, he may be Goldenface or he could be violet green but definitely not yellowface

I believe Galadriel to be a greywing rather than dilute. Dilutes are incredibly pale! Looking at her colouring and cheek patches she looks greywing instead. But either way, greywings are recessive too but if you were able to find another greywing, a dilute or a clearwing you would be able to get visual greywings.

If not! Just pair her with whoever you choose and get normals
