Default Frosted Pied... Or?

Could this cock be a frosted pied or is there some other reason for the unusual markings? Thankyou.

Smile Frosted

The difference between pieds is frosted is dutch pied to start with. It should have white flights and tail but are often mixed with dark blue or black. feathers. Every time they they molt the tai l feathers vary in color and some times have 2 double long tail feathers.

the chest of an Australian pied has a very distinct color band across the upper chest recessive pied have the color band reversed. The clear flight has a full color chest with no white markings or filmy white on chest. A pied with a solid colored chest should have a breeding test to be sure it is truly clear flight and can produce DEC. There are a number of nice pieds with solid chest color but cannot produce a DEC. These are mismarked Ausralian pieds. A clear flight pied has a total smooth color chest and no band. Flights and tail should be white but often have dark feathers in flights and tail. Dutch frosted has a solid color chest with puffs of white clouds. they should have clear white wings and tail but often have dark color mixed in. In Addition, The feathers on the top crests of the wings and down as seen from the back or by exteded wing feathers are flecked with snow which comes from The DEC. the frosting can be intensified by breeding the frosted back to A DEC or a recessive. This of course can produce smaller off spring. , but better defines the frosting. Mr Mervide in Europe and Dr Travneck here in the US Have been working with the frosted and related mutations for many years. If you visit any English budgie shows here in US you should be able to see these mutations on the bench. Lindsey/cutelittlebirdies has a picture of my frosted pied, Jack Frost in her mutation area. If you do not know the heritage for sure you need to test breed the full colored chested pied to be sure it produces a DEC. Recently The Frosted has again gained attention on the show bench. Many thanks to the experts for keeping the mutation details clear. Blessings, Jo Ann

Thank you SO very much for the information Jo Ann. I really appreciate learning more about this unusual mutation and I have passed on your advice to the owner of this boy.
