Default Crossing YF and GF

So, I have a pair I'm considering putting together. The hen is double factor yellowface II and the cock is single factor goldenface. What might I get? Obviously all the chicks would be SF yellowface II. But what off the ones that also get SF goldenface. Does one override the other or would they combine. Just wondering if those chicks would act like SF and be mint/seafoam from the yellow washing through our if they might look like double factors. I know that's not how it works with YF I and YF II, but don't know how/if goldenface and yellowface II are related.

Thanks in advance! 😁

I'm no expert in the yellow face varieties, but YF2 and GF are two separate varieites just like YF1 and YF2. Mixing then will give you half YF2 and half YF2 GF. I suspect you will have a mix of shades of yellow which will make it difficult if not impossible to tell them apart.

They look so similar and are inherited in the same way so that I often wonder at the need to tell them apart though. YF1 is different as the df is different from the sf so you might be useful to know.

I agree with Toni. From what I know, if you had a sf yf II who was also a goldenface, I'm almost positive (seen it in many sources) that the gf and the yf would combine, and since yf II was dominant, you would still get a green color out of it, albeit maybe a little darker than with just a sf yf II.

Any other way than the intensity of the yellow, though, would be almost impossible to find out, since both colors can blend together.

Great info! Thanks to you both. It's what I suspected, but nice to have it confirmed!

If you breed a df yellowface II and a sf goldenface, you will expect all of the chick to be sf yellowface. In addition, you can expect about half of them will be sf goldenface as well.

Although I have never done it myself as the confusion that would result would drive me absolutely crazy as I like to know exactly what I have From what I have read regarding the mixing of yellowface varieties, and if I am remembering correctly, a bird has a combination of yellowface/goldenface genes often tends to look like a df but with a more irregular appearance to the markings.

Let me do some digging, I know I found a good article somewhere
