Default Is this a coal-faced budgie?

Hi all,

I am fairly new here (long time lurker) and would love your opinions on a new budgie I brought home yesterday. He/She (still not sure) has very heavy barring over the crown, which I initially thought was juvie barring when it first arrived in my shop a while ago. However it's now been there at least 2 months, and if anything the barring has developed further rather than fade away.

So I'm wondering how common is this? Is it possibly a coal-face, which I've been reading about this morning, or something else? Also, guesses on male/female and age would be appreciated. I was leaning towards female based on the cere but he/she is quite chirpy in the mornings and screeched at a sparrow flying past before.

I haven't thought of a name yet so feel free to suggest those too

Thanks in advance!

What a gorgeous girl, Erica! It looks like she might almost be a coal face! Either way, she is absolutely stunning.
As for names, off the top of my head, she looks to me like a
Bristol
Tallin
Circe (Sir-see, its the name of a mythical sorceress)
Kalani (hawaiian, means "heaven and sky")
There's several other unique names on this link I made a while ago, check it out!

Not sure if this is a coal face or not. It could well be just a heavily marked opaline. I believe time will tell, as the coal face gets darker with age, where the opaline should get more white showing through.

Either way it is a gorgeous budgie.

Thank you all!

She is indeed a beautiful girlie, and has been very brave yesterday with our first taming session ending with her perching on my hand to eat supper (she has been in an aviary while in the shop and isn't used to being handled).

I have trimmed her flight feathers to keep her safe while she tames down and gets used to the home environment. She did wake last night with a night fright and of course rather than flying around the cage she dropped to the bottom and panicked It made me feel very guilty but she calmed down soon when I took her out. Just have to keep reminding myself it is for her safety and they will grow back soon enough!

Thanks to StarlingWings' great suggestions, her name has been settled on Kalani. That way if 'she' turns out to be a 'he' then we can call him Kal Thanks StarlingWings!

I have tried those links FaeryBee, thank you. Still seems unsure of whether she could be a coalface or just a striking opaline as milipidi suggests - either way I'm really glad I ended up bringing her home now. She will be a very loved and spoilt birdie

Another great thing of bringing her home is that I've had to move her into the turquoisine's cage, which means the turquoisines have had a lovely upgrade into a huge flight cage Everybody wins!

I do have more photos but can't connect my camera phone to the internet at the moment, will do so asap .
