Colours are changing...

Some of you have previously identified that my Jakob is a light green opaline clearflight pied budgie. My question is, can her colours change?

She used to have a completely yellow tail with just two somewhat coloured feathers (the main tail is completely yellow). She lost those two coloured feathers, and now that she's getting new ones, she's getting MANY with lots of colour. Some are grey/black, and some are a dark blue colour.

Is there a chance/risk that when she eventually drops the yellow tail, it could grow back a different colour?

I've added a picture to show you the colours of her new feathers...

Budgie colors often change during their first few molts as a baby. What actually happens is that the pigment gets stronger, so yellows can get stronger and make blues fade to a different tone, for example. (I defer to the experts on this one, since I'm about as effective in a discussion of mutation as a pair of concrete socks).
I don't know if it's possible, by Sammy's wing and tail feathers have never grown back a different color (always white with a hint of grey). Jakob is just as cute as ever, even with her molt face! :)

I would agree with Bethany the Concrete Socks (that made me giggle :giggle:) that colors can intensify based on mutation after the first moult. The somewhat-colored tail feathers are now at their adult intensity. About the yellow tail: Since she's clearflight pied, it's likely it will stay yellow. No worries! ;)
I can wait to see her all feathered up in her big girl plumage

For me I love the fact that you get a lovely surprise after a moult! Poor Jacob is definitely going through a tough one by the looks keep up the water for baths and lots of healthy foods to encourage good strong lovely feathers;)

Thanks all, for the replies. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what Jakob's big girl plumage looks like when moult is over! With the exception of 2 feathers, the ones she had before behind the tail were all yellow, so I might be in for a surprise or two. She also lost her two coloured wing feathers (the had some black), and one new is almost at full length. It's so shiny and pretty! She doesn't actually seem too bothered with the moult, despite all the pin feathers. She's such a brave little girl. She has her bath tub and sticks her head in her water tray at times, but other than that she never complains :)
