oh ok that would explain it then

The breeder is also shocked how Zazu is turning out.
well it sounds like Zazu's dad isn't who your breeder thought it was

and if you don't mind me asking why do you have Zazu, if he's unweaned??

it's not responsible of a breeder to sell/give away unweaned babies

The chick still looks like a type 2 yellow face dominant pied but it probably is greywing as well because it has very light markings

So, there is the possibility the other green normal male was Zazu's dad instead of the dominant pied yellow face blue male... So can you tell me, is he green or blue? (white or yellow base)?

There are pictures of him today.

I was ready to accept him being a green but he does have blue tinge on his chest and near his legs. I see the pied in him since he has the yellow bad on his tummy and I can almost see a thumb print behind his head. For some reason his head bands are hardly there...

Why are his markings so light (no black bands)? That is graywing? What accounts for that? What causes his tail to be almost all yellow (you can see slight green on the outer ones, but very lightly)?

I'm going to take a guess here (i'm not too great on the youngin's)

Yellow face type 2 sky blue Grey wing

he's mainly yellow because of being Yellow Face type 2 (that makes the yellow run through out the body, it can be just a small amount or a huge amount) - if he was NOT yellow Face type 2 he'd be Sky blue in color

the grey wing does make the markings very light

How ever i see no pied at all - The "band" on the belly doesn't look like pied to me,( I have a yellow face type 2 sky blue cinnamon hen, and on her front it looks like she is wearing a "V" neck t shirt - up on her chest is the seafoam green from the yellow face type 2, then right under that "V" is a very light lavender & Blue color it never shows up in pictures though )

and i don't see any "thumb print" on the back of the head (this can actually be noticed before they're fully feathered most of the time)

I'm not saying it's not a pied - I'm just not seeing it.

And I almost forgot the most important part

he/she is down right adorable

I actually see a patch of lighter yellow behind his head which doesn't have the light green haze to it. I tried but I can't see to be able to capture it on my camera. But I can clearly see it with my eyes.

EDIT: Actually this picture is the closest I can get to show the lighter spot on the back of the head. Would this be part of the dominant pied?

He is definately white based. He is a type 2 yellow face blue greywing dominant pied. The greywing has caused the markings to be pale and the yellow from the type 2 yellow face has spread through all the areas that would normally be white. When he moults at about 3 months old the blue areas may turn green but he will still be a white based budgie

In case you wanted to see how he turned out here is his picture. He is 41 days today (so 6 weeks tomorrow). He just got 2 flight feathers from each side clipped today. He won't get another clipping until he flys well with this new cut.

So yellow face II graywing dominant pied sky blue... that takes a bit to write. Looks like most of his blue is turned green...

he is precious

the reason is blue looks green is because of the type 2 yellow face, it turns blue into a sea foam green color (yellow + blue = green )

I wanted a blue bird originally. His brother from a previous clutch was a YF type I opaline blue. So I thought he might be similar... LOL Well, no he is not like his older bro. He is more beautiful with his seafoam and all.
