Hi guys

this is the youngest chick in my current clutch, i can't seem to figure out her (I hope) mutation

is it a recessive or dominant pied?? also I see grey coloring although non of the parents are grey!!

here is the parents:
the mother is Mauve (I think), Recessive Pied

In my opinion ( i am not an expert)
the mother is a blue violet cobalt recesive pied
and the father Dark green (1 dark factor) grey Dominant pied

(I say grey dark green because i see the cheek like grey blue instead of purple ).

to my..the baby is the sume of Recesive pied + Dominant pied Sf ( so the father must carry recesived pied). About the color i would bet for grey cobalt (or mauve).

That is my opinion, but better wait for some one who knows more.

The mother is a violet cobalt opaline recessive pied, and the father is a grey green dominant pied

The chick looks combination pied, as mentioned above: a mixture of recessive pied and dominant pied. However, it doesn't need a copy from the father, combination pied only needs 1 recessive pied gene and 1 sf dominant pied gene. The baby appears to be violet grey and is definitely opaline since both parents are.

So, the mutation for the baby is most likely combination pied, opaline, grey violet.

Thanks, but the father is not an opaline maybe he is split,

currently I'm resting all of my adults, separated the females to another big cage and will give them a good breeding diet to prepare them for spring..

I'll post pictures of all the males and female and will ask you guys what to pair to get the best possible verity of chicks ... can't wait.

A combination pied needs 2 copies of the Recessive Pied gene, otherwise it is just a Dominant Pied split for Recessive and looks just like a Dominant Pied. The combination look comes from both Recessive and Dominant Pied being visual.
