Hi there,

So we have 2 viable babies from our first clutch from 5 eggs.

They are now 3w+3d and 3w+1d old.

Just wondering if they are old enough yet to tell their sex and correct colour mutations.

The Dad is a sky blue sf violet goldenface and the mum a mauve sf violet greywing spangle. Well that is what a few members on here believe. I guess the chicks will confirm.

I'm guessing 1 is a Golden Face type 1 (like their dad) sky blue spangle. And the other a Yellow or Golden Face type 2 cobalt blue spangle.

I was going to part with both of them, but I can't do it. There must be something special about the first clutch h

I'm sorry for the bad picks of the babies I will try and get better picks tomorrow. The first is of the oldest chick and then the youngest.

Sorry this is the first chick

and then the second

Thanks

These are their parents
Mum

Dad

Thanks again

The lighting on the first photo is directly upon the cere making it hard to see the real colour on the cere.
The chick on the first pic I think is a sky blue single factor golden face. I can't see whether the chick is a spangle or not because I'm unable to see the wings.

Your chick on the second photo is a budgie boy, he is a sky blue (possibly violet too) single factor golden face spangle.

They are both stunners, congratulations on them!

Thank you. I will take better natural light photos tomorrow. I know the first is spangle too and both have the same wings.

When they were smaller I was thinking the first born was def male as he was the sweetest gentlest thing ever. Where as the second born was feisty from the start.

I will take better photos tomorrow as I might have even confused them as they as so much alike

I actuallly think this is the second born, and the first two pictures I posted were of the same baby

Sorry for the confusion.

I can't help with mutations but wanted to say your budgies are really gorgeous!
The babies are so sweet -- I wouldn't be able to part with them either.

No problem, then that chick in both photos is a male.
Behaviour even on the nest is not indicative of gender, it all depends on the bird's personality. There are certainly are some vicious males and sweet tempered females.

We will be waiting for the extra pics. If possible try taking a frontal shot showing the whole beak/cere area instead of a side shot pic.

What beautiful chicks!

It looks like you've got the mutations correct except none of them are greywing spangle, they are both just regular spangle as Greywing is a recessive gene and both parents should have it for the chicks to show it. Both chicks are /greywing.

They are stunning!

Very lovely! If the parents were sky-blue and mauve then all chicks would be cobalt. As you have sky-blue chicks the hen can't be mauve. She is a very unique colour, isn't she. I'm guessing she is cobalt violet but very diluted.
