Default Expectations of a yf opal CW x opal spangle

Hi Guys,

I just need some help on a breeding I'm going to do. I'm after more true rainbows, YF Opaline Clearwings. I have a true rainbow, Roger, who I want to put with a Spangle Opaline, Candy.

Is Spangle dominant to Clearwing? What do you think I could get out of this pair?

Roger the male.

Candy the female

Thanks for your help.

Spangle is dominant and Clearwing is recessive. So you have all the right genes present but you won't get any Clearwings from this mating unless the hen is split for it.

You will likely get lots of YF Spangles, all chicks will be Opaline also. They will be split for Clearwing so useful for producing Rainbows in the next breeding season.

Toni is absolutely correct, assuming Candy isn't split for clearwing all chicks will produce second generation rainbows if you pair any of them with a clearwing once they are of breeding age. Both of them are beautiful, best of luck with the clutch!

(And we'd love to see more of your budgies )
