Default Mutation/Gender Confirmation

Hi all!

I've recently added budgies to the flock (well-they're still in quarantine!) and while I know tons about cockatiel mutations, genetics, gender identification etc., I am not too educated on budgie mutations!

So I have two budgies. *The first is the blue/white; suspected female, possibly a English/American cross, and I believe her mutation is Sky Blue Recessive Pied. Age is not known, but I think maybe around a year. *The second is the green/yellow; suspected male, definitely an American budgie, and "he" is a Normal Green. Age is not known, but probably 5-9 months.

Hoping you guys can help me confirm genders and mutations for these cuties so I can officially have their records complete. also, I really tried to get various angle shots but the budgies are not tame and so they move about a lot while I'm trying to take decent pictures. I can try for some more if needed.

Thanks!

Hi there, you have done well with the varieties! I think you have a Cobalt Violet Recessive Pied and a Light Green Normal - both look like hens!

Bailey,

Your budgies are very beautiful!

Now that I can see the cere of your normal green, I agree the budgie is female.

I agree completely with tonic in regard to their genders and mutations.

Thank you!!!

I think they're gorgeous too, and they are getting along great. I'm hoping we can get them a bit tame, but we've got plenty of hands-off birds so if they prefer that then that's okay too.

They are both sweet girls I don't know anything about mutations, but experienced members are very helpful about any questions you have about your budgies in this forum. I have gotten great advice all the time from them

Thanks everyone! I will try to get some more pictures as they settle in. I let them out yesterday and they just hid from me the whole time. I'm sure they'll get more comfortable with time.

Quick ?

My pied hen was identified as a Cobalt Violet Recessive Pied. Is it normal for that mutation combo to have red reflective pupils? After taking more photos of my albino, I decided to use the flash (just once!) on my other two hens.

Yes, some budgies do get red eye in photos! I'm not sure if it is just some varieties though.
