Default Type I or Type II

At what age can you determine if a budgie is a yellowface type 1 vs type 2~?

I realize they can continue to change with each molt, but if by about 7 months old the body color is still mostly blue instead of taking on a definate yellow/green hue is it safe to say the bird is a Type I~? Or do you have to wait until they are even older and molt again to know for sure~?

Type I's still have some yellow suffusing through the body though, right~? Like a little in the tail and wings perhaps~?

I'm just wondering if my Ducky is a Type I or II yellowface.... but he's only gone through his first molting.

His bodycolor is still mostly blue, but he is also opaline and i noticed his mantle is looking green.

His rump is yellow-green as well.
This picture was taken after i first brought him home... this is how he got his name~ His tail looks so much better now. Still a little stumpy, but MUCH improved.
(see above photo for new tail!)

Also, you mutations experts.... Ducky has a violet factor as well. I know that online colors are not "real-life" accurate, but based on these photos do you think that he has any dark factors~? In the pictures he looks most like a 1 dark factor cobalt, but he definately has at least one violet factor.... so does he appear to be skyblue or cobalt with a violet factor~? And it looks like just one violet factor, right~?

This photo was taken about a month ago... he was still camera shy~! Hehe... he looks totally freaked out, silly Ducky.

New photo... look how comfortable he is now~! And LOOK at those eyelashes and throat spots~!

Awwww~

Gosh, he's gorgeous!

Of course, don't go by me... but I believe I read (as Strider is a type 2) that the type 2's have yellow on their wings, but the type 1's have the blue color in their wings. I don't know what age that happens though. Strider's wings are the traditional black, but have yellow on them (and no blue).

from the front shot looks to be type 1

but my yellow face type 2 sky blue cinnamon has the same exact tail

as does my Yellow face violet cinnamon

so i'm not sure if the tail is a sign of type 2 or not but i know the body color of a type 2 will be seafoam green

See... that's what i thought too~ I think Ducky looks more like Type I right now, but i dunno if that's just because he hasn't really started to change yet and eventually he will...? Also i'm not sure how much yellow suffusion Type 1's actually have.

I was looking at Spikydavies little Circus, and he is very young but already turning green in the body.... so i wasn't sure if you could tell if Ducky could still possibly turn out to be a Type II. He's about 7 months old.

the youngest type 2 yellow face I have is hope and she is a yellow face type 2 sky blue pied she showed she was a yellow face type 2 as soon as she was feathering out, Her wings were yellow, and parts of her white pied patches on her belly was yellow and now she is 11 months old and I'd say about 3 months ago is when i really noticed her sky blue on her chest area turning Sea foam green

He looks like a type 1 yellow face but he could be a double factor type 2 yellow face because the yellow often spreads less on a double factor. At 7 months old the yellow shoud have spread if it's going to. As far as the violet is concerned I think he's a sky blue (no dark factor) with a single violet factor but that is hard to be sure without breeding results

Ahhh~ learn something new every day~!

So just to clarify.... DF YF2 would still have a yellowface, but less yellow throughout the body, and DF YF1 does not visually show the yellowface- like Pitchii, who lost her yellow~?

That's right a double factor type 2 is sometimes mistaken for a single factor type 1. A double factor type 1 yellow face has a white face
