Default Fallow and Ino Genetics

Hi all !

If you've seen my breeding journal about Ruby and Starlette, then you know I have a clutch of babies that will all be split to fallow. Males will also be split for Ino....which is where I think I screwed up.

If I pair these chicks up in the future with another bird that is split to fallow, the outcome will include Ino, Fallow chicks.

I'm assuming the INO part of the genetics will completely mask the Fallow gene, making the bird look simply like an ino, and not show any of the fallow markings. ???

Yes, an Ino Fallow will look like an Ino. To avoid this you can just use the hen chicks for breeding more Fallows, they won't be split for Ino. If you use the males only some of the chicks will be Ino (and they will be hens), there is a chance to get some Fallows that are not Ino.

Thank you!

My second male fallow was going to be paired up with another Lutino, but that plan is now out of the question.

The babies from each clutch would only create a higher percentage of Ino Fallow chicks that I want to avoid. Now I'm looking for another mature female. Lol.

The female chicks from the pairing will not split to Ino but will be split fallow.

You can always pair them up with a visual fallow/split fallow male and get fallow chicks without ino coming in between .

But once again , you never know what splits can be hidden so the other males could still have ino or other mutations hidden.
On my recent breeding thread , a TCB and Lacewing threw Greywings out of nowhere.

Thanks again!

I thought I was being really clever with these pairings, until I took a closer look at the Genetics calculator.

I was hoping for the next generation to throw Green Fallows, Blue Fallows, Ino, and Lutinos. The best of everything! It WAS a good plan.....but I'd rather focus on pure Fallows instead.

Well, you were right with your plan, you are able to get Fallows and Inos!
