Hi all! I'm trying to figure out what colors and what mutations (if any) my budgies have. Cecil, the green budgie is almost 3 years old and Carlos, the blue budgie is about 4 months (I understand Carlos might be too young to say definitively).

Carlos: https://imgur.com/a/lbXip , https://imgur.com/a/BfaRJ

Someone did say that they thought Carlos was a sky blue opaline.

Thanks!

Hi there and to the forums!

Cecil is a dark green normal budgie and Carlos is a sky blue opaline budgie Carlos is also a girl

Since you have a mixed-gender pair, please be sure you're doing all you can to avoid accidental breeding! It's very easy to discourage breeding when done correctly; avoid any toys or spaces in the cage that can be used as nesting spots (i.e no next boxes or "snuggle huts") and limit their protein in their diet. Rearranging their cage frequently also helps.

You've come to the best place to learn even more about budgies!

Be sure to read through the forum's many stickies and articles to ensure that you're up to date on the very best of budgie care practices.

If you have any questions after reading through everything, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Cheers!

thanks, yeah we have them in separate cages---initially because Cecil is so much bigger than Carlos---but if we do eventually house them together, we don't want babies so we will do everything we can to prevent it.
