Yeah, that's what I mentioned above, I figured there's at least a chance that could happen!

You never know

From your responses above, I take it this is not your first breeding pair. Either way, be sure to read through all the breeding stickies and articles linked above to ensure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care.

Your pair is beautiful but Toni is correct. Your hen is green and not sky blue YF II. Some can appear green, you're correct, but there would be a bluish tint visible, especially by the rump, if she actually were sky blue yellowface II.

Since she's light green, unless she's split for blue all the chicks will be green. There's a small chance she's masking YF but that's rare.

They are a gorgeous pair, but although you're close, this isn't a pair that would foreseeably produce rainbow budgies

Meanwhile, you've come to the best possible place to learn even more about budgies! Be sure to have a look at the other forum links and articles too, to ensure you're updated on everything.

Hope to see you around

Aww this is really upsetting to hear. We'll have to see how the babies turn out

Default Rainbow budgie breeding!!!

Hello all,
I had another question to ask you guys about rainbow budgie breeding. I have this hen which I believe is a sky blue yellow face type 2 opaline (dilute/greywing) ? and the cock i will pair her with is my sky blue opaline clearwing. I will list some pictures of both. A bit confused if the hen is a fbg or a dilute. I am curious on the genetics and what genes they will pass on to their chicks. Can you guys help! THANKS SO MUCH GUYS!!

She looks to be either a lightly marked full bodied greywing or a dark clearwing. Dilutes have pale markings and body colour.

She should be good for your rainbow breeding, you will get all skyblue opalines. If she is fbg you will get some clearwings and some fbg. Some of the chicks will be yf2 also, and so you can get rainbows from this pairing.

Thank you so much for your response. Yes she does either look like a light marking fbg or a dilute. She does have darker cheek patches than a dilute would. But i think i will go ahead and see what the two can produce and use their chicks for future rainbow budgies! I'm excited to see how the chicks will look!

She really is too dark to be a dilute, either a light fbg or a dark clearwing. Dilutes are pale in both body colour and markings, much more than greywings.

I hope you get some rainbows!
