Mutation help for new babies

3 Attachment(s)
Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone can help with the mutations and colours for my new babies. I have had a guess but some are hard to tell, Greywing, Clearwing, Dilute etc.

I breed the parents and have attached photos of there parents as well.

First photo should be of my current pair and there babies, 2nd photo is of the Hens parents and siblings, 3rd photo is of the Cocks parents and siblings.

Thanks for your help,

Ange :)

Hi, and welcome :welcome: to Talk Budgies

When you upload pictures as attachments directly from your computer, tablet or phone, the forum automatically defaults to landscape. Additionally, the picture appears as what we term a “thumbnail” attachment.

It would be very helpful if you'd upload the pictures as full-sized photos rather than thumbnail attachments so our experts can view them more easily. :)

To upload full-sized pictures with the proper orientation, please use a photo-sharing service such as Imgur and follow the steps in these instructions:

Hi :welcome:

Your birds are all beautiful! :) How do you select your pairs for breeding? Do you happen to use the individual cage breeding method? We have a few members here who are the best at mutations. I’m sure they’ll be along soon.

We ask all new members, regardless of experience, to please take a look at all the Stickies in each section, and some of the threads. It will help you get started on the forum, and you’ll get a feel of what we’re all about here.

Looking forward to seeing more of your lovely flock! :)

Nice looking aviary and beautiful birds, I wish I lived in a climate where I could have an outdoor enclosure for my birds.

Excellent! Great set up and gorgeous flock you have :).

Great job adding the pictures!

I'm very impressed with your aviary and the individual breeding cage set up.

Your birds are beautiful.

I'm sure our mutations experts will be able to advise whether the mutations you listed for each of the offspring are correct when they have time to take a look at this thread.

I am going to try to add my comments alongside yours below. I will type in blue....

The strength of the yellow is more than I would expect with a yf2, it is much like a green would have, so I would say he is single factor golden face. The only way to get the chicks below is if he is split for dilute.

The body colour and cheek patches are normal strength, which is more like a clearwing than a greywing. The markings are quite grey for a clearwing, but the other option is a full bodied greywing which doesn't work out looking at the chicks. If she was fbg you would have clearwing and greywing chicks, no dilutes. So I am going to say that she is most likely a darkly marked clearwing.

I think you have the chick colours correct, other than the yellow faces being golden faces. The last one is the combination also called a rainbow!

This is assuming the Dad is the father of the chicks. If the hen laid eggs within 2 weeks of being in the cage another male from the aviary could be the father.

Thank you for your wonderful knowledge!
I keep my budgies in two separate parts of my aviary, Males in one, Females in the other, so these are defiantly the parents to these 6 chicks.

I bred both the parents and have photos of the parents and siblings, i will add them below.

This is my Hens parents and siblings. My hen is the fourth chick on the far right side, looking at the camera funny.l Her parents are a YF clearwing male and a dilute female

This is a photo of my male's parents and siblings. My male is the third chick from the left, middle row. Amazing how much his colouring has changed!

Thanks so much
