Default Another bird

Here is my youngster who must be going through a teenage chrises, because he has started screaming all the time bouncing all over and flapping his wings and getting into the older budgies way.

What is he? he seems to have some grey in her blue body and sometimes his wings look more brown than black, but like a deep deep brown.

Also, his cere is getting much darker now.

Please note, those areas look white on his chest in this photo, but in rl they look grey, I think the flash whitened them up.

You can see it a bit better here in this pic, also his blue is a little duller in person and he has two grey feathers right above his tail, but he wouldn't let me get that close to him, lol, little ******.

How old is he? When a bird is young they might not have the same mobility or balance as the older birds. He also may be looking to be fed by the older birds. I would say he is a normal sky blue. The dark brownish will darken up as he gets older and the grey in his belly might mean that he has a grey or violet factor.

Here is his more accurate color. The other one had a huge flash on it and not even the wall was the right color. This is closer to the color I see him. he also has grey tail feathers, though under tail feathers are more blue. You can see they greying in the blue a bit more here. No picture of light blue that I've seen resembles this shade of blue, except sky slate blue or in some cases the mauve, but he is definatly lighter in shade tha the cobalt, plus, his color is diluted or something, not irradescent. This was taken in natural light w/ no flash

that last picture looks like a young cobalt normal to me. the colour usually deepens a bit when they moult into adult plumage.... cobalt does not usually have the iridescence of skyblue either.

Hmm, that will be interesting to see. They said he was 18 weeks, but no way he has got to be under 3 months w/ those rings. Do youngsters have the lines go almost around their necks like him or is that something that will stay?

Well, you might as well start calling it a "she". It's a girl, and she's beautiful.

She isn't a recessive pied, a lutino, an albino, or a DEC. And, to add to that, she still has ALL her baby bars, so you are looking at a baby. Her eyes will lighten to get the white rings in her eyes, and her baby bars will molt away as she ages. Her black will darken, and so will her tummy feathers. I agree with tonic, she looks like a Normal Cobalt to me.

Her cere is purple and it turns darker blue purple everyday she is a he. HIS cere was also the darkest one of all the babies, which were all noticeable as girls. All breeding stuff I have seen say purple to light violet ceres in babies are boys. Plus, he acts just like a boy not like a girl. He sings to the girls, he prances in front of them. Sings to them and not to the other boy, and the other boy only shows interest in the other girls and this blue boy only perked up when I gave him a female partner. Oh my lord, he just was swinging on one of their tails back and forth w/ his feet upside down. He is a raskle.

From the last pic w/o flash, I agree it's a boy.

Thank you, also I don't believe he is cobalt, I have a cobalt and she is so much darker and brighter than he is. I mean side by side they must be like 5 shades apart.

Also, people totally forget what a flash does. It adds blue pigments to whites, blacks, and greys, it lightens everything to an unnatural color, which is why we have photo editors to bring that back down to normal. In fact, it is the very reason why most pro shots are done in natural light or background lighting, cause flashes can be a nuisance.

ALso, one of many things I found on male female cere color for babies

"
Baby budgies can be sexed the same way a mature budgies, by the cere. I like to think of it as the baby's are opposite to the mature budgies.
Female baby budgies have white that show around the top of the nostrils with a bit of blue that shows at the bottom of the cere near the beak. As the female baby becomes older she will develop more white around the beak with a touch of yellowish brown starting to appear around the nostril.
Male baby budgies have a cere that looks pinkish - purple as the baby male becomes older the darker purple the beak comes, then over time the cere turns blue."

https://www.backyard-birds.net/articles/budgie.sexing.html - found at that sight and includes photos. My boys cere looks just like that male one.
