What is a Recessive Pied

Hello, someone mentioned that Bones and Booth might be recessive Pieds.. What is that ? I would love to find out more about it.

:)

recessive pied is a mutation.

Quote:

Recessive pied budgies have, in general, mostly clear feathers on all areas except the rump, which remains the original body color. In general there is a patch of normally colored body feathers near the bottom of the belly, with the rest of the body feathers being clear. Where there are marked feathers on the wings, these feathers are half clear near the top. The wings can have anywhere from a lot to very little marked feathers. The feathers on the head are mostly clear except sometimes for patches near the eyes and top of the head.
The recessive pied budgie's eyes are dark plum colored and never lighten with age; they always stay dark. This is how you can be sure a pied is recessive pied, since the dominant pied's eyes lighten normally with maturity. The cere of the male recessive pied also does not change normally. Adult male recessive pieds have purple ceres. Adult female recessive pieds have the normal white/tan/brown ceres.

hoped that helped any. My Chibi-Chibi is recessive , its my favorite mutation ... 2 two pieds are alike :)

Hi Beatrix! I have a couple of recessive pieds. This one also has the type 2 yellow face gene, giving it the all over yellow body color when it is actually a blue series bird, and the few markings on her wings are grey due to the greywing gene:

omg.. those are soooo BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you for sharing your pictures.. what I read about the Recessive Pieds is that the eyes stay dark (no iris showing) .. I really like that baby look ..
I hope to breed some next year.. (just one couple) :)

You're welcome - anytime! I love taking pictures of my birds, so I'm always happy to take example pictures of anything you want to see. I'll have to take a few of the other recessive pied we have. She has fewer markings on her back, but is also yellow face so they look very similar!! Had considered breeding them together to make little recessive pied babies, but not sure yet. The yellow face gene is very complicated in it's inheritance (to me) so I'll probably wait on that decision until I'm 100% clear on how it works. I like knowing what I'll get from the breeding before I begin! :D The way I understand it though is that a yellow face x yellow face can actually produce a normal looking bird since yellow faces carry a normal and a mutant gene. I'll study it more and come to a more sure conclusion though.
