Opaline inheritance
1030 Attachment(s)
One of my pairs on eggs is a blue series opaline greywing hen with a blue series yf2 recessive pied male who is also possibly opaline and spangle. If he is not opaline, the males will all be split for opaline and none of the females will be opaline. If he is opaline, all of the females will be opaline, and so will all of the males. Is that correct?

Normal Cock = ZZ Opaline Hen = ZoWZoW Offspring Phenotype Results: Males: 100% Normal Females: 100% Normal Offspring Genotype Results: 50% Male split for opaline (ZZo) 50% Female normal (ZW) Source: https://www.****************/gen_opaline.html Quote:
Opaline Cock = ZoZo Opaline Hen = ZoWZoW ZoZo x ZoWZoW = 50% ZoZo (opaline males) + 50% ZoWZoW (opaline females) |
if he is opaline or split you'll get male and female opalines If he's not opaline or not split for it all males will be split you'll get no visual
You can tell if he's spangle by his markings - a bird can't be split to spangle its dominant |

I understand what spangle looks like, but he is recessive pied with very few wing markings. :) An expert who has bred several recessive pieds told me he believed my bird to be spangled. But another expert remains unconvinced. So, I'll know when the babies get here. Which will be on Friday! Woo hoo!

I have 2 Spangled Recessive pieds one is easier to see than the other
here's the one that is easier to tell https://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...edbackview.jpg https://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...edbackview.jpg with his wing out (a lot easier to tell for me that way) https://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...ingheldout.jpg then the one that is hard to tell because of lack of markings, Plus they're lightly colored plus she's Mainly white - she has nothing goin' on for her to make it easier to tell LOL https://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...emale51411.jpg https://i640.photobucket.com/albums/u...le2on51411.jpg |
