[This picture] shows them pretty well. On the back of his head, and on his chest.

Weird! Normally there's a solid white patch on the back of their heads, like the little guy next to him!

But yeah, he's most likely lightly pied. And the blue is also so splotchy in color because he looks like he has violet factor in him.

Yeah, Sammy's dot is solid too. *Shrug* Weird is right!

The blue isn't splotchy, at least not when I look at it in person. What might look splotchy in the picture, looks white in person. What do you mean by violet factor? He's visibly purple so I know he's violet but, I don't know enough about it to know what that could have to do with white feathers.

..yeah, quite odd white feather patch?....but it's not an "all clear/solid colour" patch, as I (with my limited knowledge) would expect from that belonging to a pied?

...and the white feathers appear to "protrude" ("stand-up") above the other adjacent feathers as well...

..anyone out there to confirm if this is permanent?...

PS - BUT these white feathers do not appear "unnatural"....maybe it's just the feather structure that vary across the bird?....any experts on "long- / short- length" feathers and feather structure....

..I've read the English budgy (show-type) originated from such varying "feather-structure" being identified, then established...and have ultimately created these "larger-looking" show-type birds, just cause the feather-structure is different....so why can't this aspect vary across a single bird...maybe as in this case?!

I'm actually starting to wonder if it's possible he's a light grey, with violet factor. Does anyone know if that is possible?

And violet factor is a color adding factor, that both green and blue series budgies can have. Makes a normal blue color pop and look violet! And often times the color can be distributed a little unevenly, especially when they are young and haven't molted out all of their baby feathers yet.

Hmm. The breeder says he's 6 months old, if that helps any. I don't know when what molts are and such.

I don't think he's grey, because his back looks like cobalt-ish to me. It's just the front of him that looks like it's frosted with white. In my first posting on this thread with the pics, the last two pictures with flash kinda show that well. His front is pale while his back is bright.
