Default Cheek patch colour!

Chicken McLickin has white cheek patches. She is a green (possibly violet i am told like her dad) spangle opaline. Does any one know why this occurs? is it anything to do with her mutations of colouring. Her dad was a Violet blue spangle clearflight pied, split for opaline if that helps anyone.

I just think their rather cute

White cheek patches! How cute. I know most Lutino's have them. She's very pretty, just as well!

Single factor spangles usually have white or partly white cheek patches. Double factor spangles always have white cheek patches

Lutino & albinos always have white cheek patches

All three pied mutations will have white cheek patches if there is a pied area where the cheek patch is

Erika,

I immediately thought about your Roger...when I read this from Nev about "pied" cheek patches...

Well, a very good example of this cheek patch colouring then!..just perfect!

...and just to show what Nev said about the "lutino" & "spangle" cheek patches, here are two examples of my (sadly past, sold since) birds!

Lutino:

Spangle (Opaline-Grey):

Tasha,
A really lovely bird you have in this hen!...it would be interesting & probably spectacular looking babies from this pairing?!

Enjoy!
