Default Can anyone help with naming these colours on our budgies please?

Bluey and Ming ... the breeding pair

Ming and Bluey

PREVIOUS BABY from this pair is "Mista"

New baby - born 18 September - now 26 days old

I can't find ANY colour or markings on this baby - do they change?

I think Bluey and Ming are spangles. If Bluey is the boy - he's cobalt. If Ming is the lady, she's sky blue.

Mista looks also spangle, mixture of cobalt and sky blue. Hmm.

New baby (if it does have no wing markings) looks like an albino to me (are the eyes red? I can't tell 100%). If the eyes aren't red, it's a dark eyed clear.

Please post a picture of Ming the hen's back.

I think Bluey (father) and Ming (mother) are spangle greywing(?) sky blue. Bluey might also be violet.

I think Mista is spangle greywing(?) sky blue violet -- just like his dad.

I think new baby is double factor spangle. DF spangles are all clear (white or yellow).

Erin, do you think the parents and chick #1 are spangle greywings, or are they just spangles? And do you see violet in Bluey and chick #1?

I think they are just regular spangles. Their body color doesn't look diluted to me. However, those pictures may have been taken with flash. I think you may be right about dad being a sky violet as well as Mista.

Thanks so much Donna-lee, Susan, George and Erin - you guys rock!

I will get some better pics of Ming (the mum) and Bluey (the Dad) today. It's just tricky -cos they are not particularly tame and Ming especially has a really good beak on her! lol Son can hold her - I'm not happy with him at the moment! Hahaha

Yes, I did take those with a flash - Ming does have a much lighter coloured blue than Bluey - she's like a sky blue. Bluey's got this opaly purply blue sheen on his blue feathers. Mista has the same purply blue thing going on as Bluey.

The white baby has dark eyes. It has no patterns, no bars, nada. Just white. I THINK it's a girl - there seems to be a white circle forming around it's nares.

I love KNOWING what to call them. Somehow, a purply, opaly blue doesn't really sound right, does it? LOL

Perhaps you could take their cage outside and snap some pictures from various angles. I don't want your son to distress Ming.

The purply sheen might be a violet color-adding factor.

DF spangles are all clear (all white for blue series birds like yours). This mutation masks all other underlying colors, although at some point you might see a little sky blue peeking through. Your baby eventually will develop iris rings.

Attached is a picture of my yellow face 1 double factor spangle hen. She is clear (white) with yellow face 1 tint, but she does not show any obvious black or blue coloring (except a faint blue sheen peeking through).

This is Blueys back - he was actually harder to snap than Ming this time! And, if it weren't for Bluey not wanting to be held still, I would not know which one is which!

This is Mings back - she was VERY good! I wanted to check the pair of them anyway - after being outside, I worry about mites and other stuff that wild birds might drop on them. They were both fine!
