Post Questions about Pearl

so I finally got a new budgie today After 2 years since my first two pet budgies died...

so I've promised myself to take better care of Pearl , which is what I named her ^^

So she got out of her box that I placed on the new cage and after flapping frantically around the cage, she is now perched on the corner.

now this is the part where I'm worried because she seems quiet and closes her eyes

I'm confused if she's falling asleep or somethings not right, when I move closer to quietly check on her, she opens her eyes. after a few seconds seeing me she closes them again, sometimes only her left eye closes but her right Is still open.

should I be worried? is this normal?

should they be sleeping this much especially if its there first time because I did a bit of research and I saw that they should be curious with their first time inside their new cage...

I don't know if I should put towel around her cage, to make it easier for her to fall asleep, or if I should be trying to communicate to her...

sorry if theres a lot of questions I'm just kinda panicking right now because I don't want Pearl to end up like my last budgies :'(

if any of you guys have any advice or experience like this let me know please thank you.

I'm going back to college next week, which means that I won't be able to spend as much time with Pearl until I get home

I don't want her to be lonely so I would love to get another budgie to keep her company.

However, I just got her today as she's new herself...so I'm not sure if getting another budgie is okay. I was hoping to back to the store and purchase another budgie from the cage she was in, so maybe she's already familiar with them.

do any of you guys have any ideas for not making their budgie feel lonely while they are away? or do you think I should get another buddy for Pearl while she still isn't territorial with her cage, so it's easier.

anyway just let me know your thoughts or ideas on this thankkk uuu

My Budgie is quite new and Hasn't made one sound since she's been in the cage...

Also, she seems to be yawning a lot...

should I be worried, like she might be sick or something... or this is generally what new Budgies do?

You should cover the top and three sides of her cage to make her feel comfortable.
Depending on her age, she may be fairly young and a little stressed.

Let her settle in and spend some time reading some of the stickies on the forum so you're more familiar with normal budgie behavior.
You can read some of the information to her to let her get used to the sound of your voice.

I have merged all three posts about Pearl into one thread.

As you didn't reply to my first reply about your bird, you *need* to spend time researching about normal budgie behavior. Yawning, sleeping for a new young budgie aren't worrying symptoms, but you need to learn what is by taking some steps to learn yourself what behavior you *should* look out for.

In regards to getting a friend for Pearl, as you're going to be away it would be best to have considered this prior to buying her.

You need to consider if the cage you have is the correct size for two birds, as you will otherwise need to get a new cage of an appropriate size. What cage have you currently got?
If you did get another bird, yes, you can get one from the say pet store and house them together. If you get one from another pet store, it will need to be quarantined.
If you had noticed Pearl getting on well with one of the other birds in the pet store, it would be a good idea to get that bird. If you didn't spend time observing her, you can chance it by deciding one that seems healthy.

You really need to do some research and utilize the forum's stickies for yourself to learn more. Any other questions you have about Pearl can go in here rather than starting lots of new threads.

I'm sorry The reply I was supposed to send, didn't send because I think my tab closed and I got it mixed up with the other open tabs ><

anyway, thank you for the reply and Pearl is actually responding well with my voice. I Have been reading more stuff from the forums and books to get her used to my voice and now she's looking at me more than did when I first put her in the cage.

In terms of choosing her in the store, she was the most active one and looked really happy in the cage. she was mostly by herself, playing and eating which is why the shop keeper somehow said that it will be easier if we were picking single. she also looked very healthy in terms of her appearance, which is why it startled me that she started acting weird when I brought her home, which I now understand.

I've actually never seen this site and its my first time so sorry if I made a lot of new threads. anyway I am getting used to this and thank you for taking the time to merge it all into one and replying to my help.

Hi! to Talk Budgies

It takes time for a new budgie to settle into a new environment.

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

Truly, the very BEST advice anyone can offer you is to take the time to read ALL of the stickies throughout the various Talk Budgie forums as well as the Budgie Articles we have posted.

Hey!

I got a new budgie myself and my Kanna was the same thing.. what I did was cover 3 sides of the cage and made sure only the front of the cage is uncovered.. I'm not experienced enough to give Budgie help yet, but I can help out from what I've been through.. Kanna only ate 24 hours after I brought him home (after moving him into a quieter area and covering the cage)... He also hung onto the side of a cage the first day for 20 mins, then moved to the highest perch and sat there until 24 hours
