Yesterday morning I received a phone call from our local Humane Society that I was approved to adopt the budgie they had. I've had everything set up for a little while now. I picked him up in the afternoon. They called him Green Arrow at the HS, but his new name is Fizzy.
Fizzy's story is basically that his previous owner had him and a second budgie, but his buddy escaped and flew away (poor little guy). His owner decided they weren't prepared to care for the bird so they gave him to the Humane Society. Fizzy was there since May this year. Since he's been there, he apparently developed an obsession with his mirror.
Since being in his nice, big cage he's been spending more time on various perches and the only time I've seen him by that dang mirror (yeah, they sent it along with him) is when he was sleeping last night. He is currently at his food dish eating as I'm writing this post.
I'm not bugging him too much aside from covering/uncovering for sleep/wakeup, food/water, and just spending some time sitting nearby and reading aloud. He sat on the perch nearest me and chirped while I was reading. I think he likes listening to the wild birds in the morning, too.
It's going to be great having a budgie again
