Default New budgie behavior ?

Alright so bonding is going really well Dusty will eat from and step up on both my daughters finger and mine. He offers his face for scratches and sings with us. He preens himself and generally seems healthy and happy. Here is my question.. I find he spends a lot of time on the bottom of his cage. He doesn't seem sick at all. I changed up his perches today from the ones that come with the cage to natural branches. I do think he likes them more.... but still sits on the ground a lot to preen and stretch and run around.... I did clip the first two flight feathers on each wing but he can still fly from perch to perch... does he need a platform ? What's with all the time spent on the bottom? Iv never seen a bird do this. Thanks you guys !!

As long as he isn't showing any other signs of illness I wouldn't be worried. My girl did this as well when I first got her, she tried finding a way to escape her cage on the bottom. He should grow out of it as he settles in more.

Many baby birds spend a good deal of time on the bottom of their cage.

If you change his papers at least twice daily, you can put the paper on top of the bottom grate rather than underneath it.

I always have my papers on top of the bottom grate and allow by budgies to forage for their seed on the bottom of the cage twice daily when the clean papers are placed down.

I think your budgie is behaving all right perhaps there are a few budgies that act that way,but my budgie was doing that aswell and I found out that he Wili was actually looking for food on the ground.I think that You shouled check that your budgie is regularly eating from his/her tray.
