He arrived today and appears to be in good health...perhaps a bit fatigued. He started his journey yesterday from a small town in Virginia and made his way to Richmond where he boarded a plane to Philadelphia. From there it was a 30 minute drive to my town in northern Delaware. He's currently resting in his new home with fresh water and food. He traveled with his own sprig of millet, so I added that to the cage. He currently resides in my bedroom where he can get use to the sounds of my apartment. Tiki and Sprite are unaware of his presence, as he is of theirs, but soon I'm sure he will hear their chattering and perhaps respond in kind.
Now for the arduous task of a moniker. I could go with something obvious like Blue, Azure, Sky or any others that are descriptive. Then again, there are already a plethora of budgies with those names.
My thoughts turn to from whence he came....Virginia. My maternal grandfather was born and raised there as were many of my ancestors before him going back to the Colonies. Very deep roots to say the least. One family surname stands out to me....Leftwich!! A blue budgie named Leftwich...hmmm. The Leftwich's were originally from England and the ol' homestead still exists today near Cheshire. Not only that, the Coat of Arms includes a white back ground with 8 blackbirds.
Will have to think on that. I'll post some photos tomorrow when he's a little more acclimated. ...oh...and I hope you enjoyed the history lesson
Thank you. I forgot to ask the breeder about his DNA history and haven't heard back from them yet. If any of the experts would like to chime in the meantime that would be kewl. He has an interesting "chirp" and noticeably different than the others.
