Default Peep Says Hello!

Hello, everyone! I haven't posted in awhile, so I'm not sure how many of you guys remember me,lol. I recently acquired a new addition, so my current budgie Tiki can have a buddy while my hubby and I are at work during the day! I have had him for a week now and he will remain in quarantine until the 30 day period is up.

Anyway, meet my little guy,Peep! (fairly positive he's a boy, but doesn't hurt to have it confirmed from those more experienced than me). I have since replaced most those plastic green perches with the natural wood kind. He's in a Vision cage, and I find that the perches don't hold up very well when weight is added to them :/

It seems he is starting to settle in rather nicely. He is eating his regular seed/pellet mix out of his food bowl, and eating millet prior to that. I have removed the millet from his cage so it's not in there 24/7, since he is now eating the regular food. However, I have yet to see him drink from his water dish,so I'm a wee bit concerned about that. The cage I have him in had 2 food/water bowls situated on the bottom, but I never saw him venture down that far, so I put the stainless steel bowls by where he perches frequently and he seems to prefer those.

Can anyone confirm his mutation as well as his age? I thought he was a Lutino at first, but his eyes don't look red to me? I do not see any iris rings and his eyes are fairly dark. He also has just a wee bit of a green color patch on his belly and his back between the wings.

Hello Peep! Looks like he has lots of fun toys! Peep is a cute little male. I know he is definitely not a lutino for the reasons you stated. I think he could be a dark-eyed clear but am certainly no expert.

Peep is a good looking bird. He poses well for the photo. Has excellent feathers andhas a nice expression on his face. The setting in his cage also goes well with the bird and the photo. He looks much better than an average, regular budgie.

I agree he looks like a male. At first glance he appears to be a dark eyed clear, however on second look I can see some green on his back and lower chest. Considering he is so heavily pied, I'm thinking he could be a double factor dominant pied. If he is a dom pied you will see white irises starting to develop around the 5-9 month mark. As for water, budgies drink small amounts very quickly. In the wild, coming down to drink water from a water hole would put them in a very vulnerable position. As long as he is eating and pooping normally then he is drinking as well, he's just being sneaky about it

Peep is very cute! He's definitely a little boy, and he's some sort of heavily-pied pied budgie because of the green- unsure if that is a combination, dominant, or recessive though.

He's a beautiful little boy, congratulations on your new addition!

If I had to venture a guess at his mutation, I would say that he looks to be an olive green combination pied budgie with some diluting factor, it's impossible to tell what because he has no other markings, though. I'm going with combination pied because of the location of the green, which may point to a recessive pied gene.

What a sweetie, he sure knows how to pose!

Thank you everyone! I was just a bit confused on the mutation because his beak is orange, he has the little white cheek patches, and his little feetsies are pink. I have also thought these features were only present in either the lutinos or dark eyed clears. Then again, I am very very novice when it comes to identifying mutations so I appreciate all of your info on what he could possibly be!
Would you guys say that he is younger than 5 months old?

With a bit of luck, they’re both going to get the best Christmas present, a fellow budgie buddy!
Best of luck, he looks adorable
