Hello all! It's been a while since I posted.

3 weeks ago, we got 2 new budgies to hopefully add to our current 2 we have, Bee and Paulie. I picked 2, to try and keep the numbers even. The new ones came from the same place, that's why I was able to quarantine them together.

Bee and Paulie are doing wonderfully together too! (Don't worry, I have the means to keep the new ones permanently separated if needed).

I have kept them in a separate room for the past 3 weeks, and today just moved them near Bee and Paulie's cage, side by side.

Our new ones names are Blue (the darker colored one) and Pepsi (the lighter one). And if I am correct, they both look like boys to me.

Blue and Pepsi are pretty obsessed with Bee and Paulie right now. Constantly on that side of the cage, moving up and down the bars. I am hoping they will chill soon and relax a bit. But thinking back on how Bee and Paulie behaved when I first put their cages side by side, they acted pretty much the same way lol

Anyway, here's a pic!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Thank you!!
I am very excited and anxious. One never knows how an introduction will go. I am hoping when it's time to introduce, things go smoothly. I will expect there will be a little bickering here and there as they determine pecking order (so to speak lol), but hopefully no full blown fights.

Do you think I'm correct, in that Blue and Pepsi are both boys???

Here's Bee and Paulie

Congratulations on the new pair, very cute!
Id say that the lower bird (Blue?) appears male but the higher bird (Pepsi?) Im not sure about. If you could post photos of the cere in natural light without flash, members will be able to give you a clearer answer.

Thank you.
Okay, here is a picture that's more close up. If you need a clearer one I will try and get another!

I got another.

They are very cute! The lighter colored bird (Pepsi?) looks like s/he could be female, but I am still learning to identify, so don't take my word for it.

Your new budgies are very cute.

Blue is a male and Pepsi is a female.

You will need to be very careful to discourage breeding:

If Bee and Paulie are both male, you'll need to house these two separately on a permanent basis.
You won't want to house three males with one female.
The four can, however, have closely supervised out of cage time if they get along

I was thinking that. Now that I know she's female, my plan changes a bit.

Would it be advised to return her for a male? She hasn't bonded to me yet, and I am able to return her I believe, for any reason, up to 30 days.

I really don't want a female, and I don't believe Blue is really attached either. They were both in the same cage but weren't hanging near each other. I was trying for 2 males.. it's hard to tell honestly at the store which one you're getting.

Thank you very much for the advice

Sarah,

It is your decision entirely.
Since you now have three males and one female, I can certainly understand if you decide to "exchange" her.
If you do so, I'd do it right away.
Remember all these changes are stressful for a little budgie.

Well, I decided to exchange her. I didn't want to wait, and did it earlier today. I feel bad about it, but I think it would better this way.
I believe, the one I exchanged her for is a male. I've posted a pic below.
