Default New budgie gender & advice please

This is my new budgie Scrunch. From other posts I'm guessing female but some other opinions would be great!

Also, I've had her for almost 4 months. She loves to cuddle up to my face/get and give kisses...but I may have moved too quickly trying to hand tame and she's a little afraid when I put my finger up to her. She runs away for a second but then will hop on. Any advice to take that little bit of hand fear away?

Hi there and to the forums!!

Scrunch is indeed a beautiful little girl It sounds like she's settled in quite well, despite her being a little bit skittish.

Moving a bit slower when asking her to step up, and putting your hand in her cage for long periods of time while talking to her or with your palm flat offering her seeds is a good way to get her more used to your hand. She'll eventually stop being skittish around your hand

I look forward to seeing lots more of her!

Be sure to read through the budgie articles and "stickies"(threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) on the forums to be sure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care practices. If you have any questions, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Cheers!

Would you guys recommend this product for bathing? My last budgie LOVED the shower but would get really flaky skin that it was constantly picking little flakes off, I'm afraid its rust or some other contaminate in the city water.

I would not recommend any spray-on product. It could irritate their eyes if it gets in, and besides, budgies don't need to bathe.

You can offer your budgie a shallow dish of water to bathe in if she likes, but don't force her to do so.

The white flakes you may see come from moulting, where keratin sheaths encasing the feathers fall off when feathers open. This is normal and is not cause for concern

Gorgeous little girl! She looks like a recessive pied. I used to have a little female named Sky that looked just like her!
