I'm just new here - with my first budgie Casper. I've had him for about a month, and was under the impression from the breeder that he is about 3 months old.
I'm quite an anxious new owner, as i've never had budgies before so just thought I would say hi to everyone.
Training is going well, he is happy to come to my finger and i just leave his cage open when I'm at home and he comes and goes as he pleases. Recently i've thought his feet were looking a little dry so i'm going to try a bit of olive oil on them.
Any other health advice for me? I'm not sure what kind of routine treatment regime that budgies require. Treatment for mites etc?
So far he seems healty, although a little sneezy? He's just been through a moult...dealing with his little spikey head pin feathers
You have come to the right place to learn more about best practices in budgie care. The very best advice is to read all the articles and stickies (posts stuck to the top of a forum). I don't know that olive oil is harmful for budgies but usually you do not need to worry about dry skin. You do want to be sure that your bird is getting a healthy diet and enough rest and feels safe. It is recommended that you take your bird in to an avian vet for a well-visit to get a check-up and establish a baseline. Have a look around and feel free to ask questions. We love to help!
Casper is a cute little boy! I look forward to seeing more of you and him around the forums.
