Default This is Twig

I had no intention of getting a second budgie, but I was in my breeders shop picking up bird feed and this little guy was staring up at me. I say guy, i'm pretty sure its a boy, but not certain. Hopefully he will make a good little brother for Branch. Anyway, I knew I had the empty vision cage at home so I made the impulse purchase. I was told he is 8 weeks old, not an english so I know he will be smaller than Branch. When I got him home, I immediately got to work setting up the vision for him in a different room. They know each other are in the house though because they whistle to each other even with the doors closed.
Twig is super friendly, hoping up on my finger at the shop to go in the transport cage. I fully intended to leave him alone for a couple of weeks to settle in, but when I got up this morning and uncovered his cage, he came running up and climbed to the door. When I opened it, thinking he would fly to a perch to get away, he came right out onto my finger. Pictures below.

Any suggestions on sex and color? I am terrible figuring out colors, Sky Blue...?

Edit, forgot to add, he weighed in at 30 grams yesterday when I brought him home and 33 this afternoon with most of his seed/pellet mix gone, well mostly the seed gone the pellets were in the pan.

Looking scared in his cage last night

Sleeping before i covered the cage

Definitely a gorgeous little boy. However it is recommended to not handle your budgie for at least 2 weeks after you bring it home. Even budgies who have been hand raised need time to settle in and are often submissive at first simply because they are terrified.

I agree, I only took him out to take photos. I feel so bad leaving him in the cage though. He is not acting submissive at all. As soon as I walk up to the cage he is off his perch crawling back and forth across the bars. The breeder/owner told me he has been weaned for about 2 weeks and hasn't begged to be fed for about 1.5 weeks or so.

I love the names, too!

Just so you're not surprised--if this happens--sometimes even very friendly baby budgies get more stand offish when they get older. Enjoy it now before he turns into that teenager who pretends he doesn't know his parents at the mall.

Twig is very cute.

Make sure you are not overfeeding him.
It is important you give him a balanced and healthy diet.

After the 45 day quarantine period, you'll want to be sure your introduce Twig and Branch properly in neutral territory.

I'll be looking forward to seeing more pictures of this little cutie!!

He's absolutely precious!

You're right, he's a normal sky blue budgie

He has one of the cutest faces I've ever seen!

I think you have a friend from the start. He also, looks real healthy. Your so lucky to have a breeder where you know that your getting a bird that is in fact a baby. Keep up the good work.
