Getabudgie is on a distinguished road
Default New budgie bird is here

As of yet this baby doesn’t have a name. I was told he is a he and is 12 weeks old. I am also told he is not tame and will need to tame which is no problem. Anyway, he is like a blue and yellow with grey on. He will step up on my finger and eat from my fingers and he hasn’t bitten! Not too bad. Much more of a gentle character so far than my beautiful parrotlet who wouldn’t let you beat him in his cage. Anyway, he has had a good fly around the room and then stepped up for being returned to his cage. I’m pleased. I would love to know his colouring variations if anyone is able to help me please. Thanks

Haha I had a feeling it was! Pet shops are so useless. She is very pretty. I’m hoping she settles in well. I’m letting her be for a while now as I don’t want to scare her or stress her too much. Thank you so much for the colour information. I’m going to think of a pretty name for a pretty bird.

Your new little girl is very pretty.
She is also currently in breeding condition.
Make sure you do not put anything in the cage that could be used as a nesting site.
Females can decide to lay eggs even if there is no male bird present.

Rearranging her cage frequently, and limiting the light she get to 8 hours a day will help tremendously in discouraging egg laying.
When she is in condition, limit the amount of protein in her diet at that time.

If you have a rope toy in the cage, you need to trim the fringe down to no more than 1/2" long.
Additionally, it is important you make sure your budgie does not chew the strings and ingest the fibers.

Please refer to the information in this thread:

She is gorgeous!

What a beautiful girl

I agree with Michelle regarding her mutation, if you have better photos of her taken without a flash in natural light that would be great to confirm! I can't wait to see more of her!

Congrats on your new family member. She is very pretty and I look forward to hearing what name you decide on. Be careful not to rush in and start trying to tame her too quickly. She needs time to settle in first and get used to her surroundings and new routine. If you check out the stickies in the taming and bonding section, you'll find a lot of fantastic information.

Best of luck to you. I just know your new feathered friend will bring you immense joy and I do hope you'll keep sharing updates on her progress.

Congratulations on your new arrival!
Who is still gorgeous, even though she has turned out to be a mature female rather than a 12 week old male,

Wishing you all the best in getting to know each other. Keep us updated and we always love seeing photos.

She is a sweetie. She has started to chirp. She will step up etc. I thought she was rather large for a baby. She is a lovely bird. Very pleased we got her. I am guessing she is more like a year old maybe. At least she is out of that cage at the pet shop and is getting the chance of a good life now.

Now I have questioned the pet shop and they say the oldest she is 20 weeks and that all their birds are hand tame. Such liars. I am glad I have my gorgeous bird out of those conditions but I’ve left a review online for them. Now I am just going to ensure my bird gets the best of everything. Now I need to name her.
