Two years ago today, we rescued an escaped young budgie who we had seen at our bird feeder several days prior. After several attempts to catch him by conventional methods, and after thoroughly scaring him in doing so. I opted for an open cage with food and a mirror. This did the trick. He was mesmerized by seeing another escaped budgie and stayed put until my wife closed the cage. The rest is history.
I am happy to report that Petie is doing great. He is thriving in his new cage, gets new toys on a regular basis, and we've become bonded. He is a two word bird and can say Petie Pete and pretty bird. Overall he seems very happy and we often have out of cage time.
This forum was a lot of help to me in my early stages of budgie ownership. Thanks to all!
It's great to hear that Petie is doing so well. He's a lucky little budgie to have flown into your yard, your home and your heart. We'd love to see some pics of him if you'd like to open a thread in the picture section for him.
