Default New babies

I have 2 new babies meet Noah hatched in May, he is opaline but I could not get a good picture of his backside, and Percy( the pied one) hatched in June, picture quality not great but I did not want to scare then with the camera. They are currently in quarantine and are both finger tame right now as they were handled a lot by the breeder, I am hoping that I can continue that and keep them at least somewhat tame.

It seems that I may have to separate them for now. Although there are multiple food dishes in the cage every time Noah is at a dish Percy comes along and pushes his way in and Noah backs off. If Noah goes to another dish then Percy goes to that one as well. He does not push Noah away in an aggressive way he just seems to make sure he is hogging the entire dish, and Noah just backs away rather than standing his ground. Suggestions??

Hmmm, I know that the usual recommendation is to Ďleave them beí for a couple of weeks but .... with them being already used to hands, the fact that they still have the security of a fellow feathered flock mate around and that you are an experienced member, very able to interpret and adapt to their body language, do you think Noah (& Percy if he pushes in) would be confident enough to take food from you through the cage bars?

Alternatively, can you not split their daily seed allowance into 2 or 3 portions and present it spread widely (so Perch canít hog the whole portion) over a sheet of clean paper on the cage floor?

Iím just wondering whether Noah will learn to assert himself when heís a bit more settled - It seems a pity to separate them when Percy isnít actually being aggressive.

I will wait a few days to see how this actually plays out before I decide if I have to separate them. Maybe Percy had a lot of competition from his siblings for food and feels he has to hog everything, he is also a few weeks younger than Noah. These two were from the same household, 2 different clutches so they are somewhat acquainted with one another. Percy is very tame and outgoing and Noah is a bit more reserved and shy. There are 4 food dishes in the cage 2 upper ones, one on each side of the cage and 2 lower, one on each side. They are currently in a cage that is 28 inches wide so there is enough space for each one to have their own spot. I caught Noah munching on some pellets last night, hope that keeps up, Percy was not interested in them.

Congratulations! Noah and Percy are such cute little guys

Hopefully the two are just establishing pecking order (where Percy is boss ) and will be able to live peacefully with each other in the long run.
