Mango Pudding is on a distinguished road
Default Lovely Budgie Baby

It has been 9 days since I got this lovely Budgie Baby -Mango! I believe it is a SF dominant Pied (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm still hand feeding this little naughty baby. Look at its heart shape Pied Patch!

Mango is around 4 weeks old now. I don’t know whether it’s a boy or girl.

Mango is adorable, but I have to ask: are you experienced in hand feeding? is there a particular reason the breeder let you take him home so early?

Even for the most experienced hand feeders, budgies taken from the nest so young miss out on essential budgie socialization skills from their parents, which can lead to a reluctance to wean, social problems, etc., which is why it's not advisable to wean them away from the nest.

Mango is the 2nd budgie I handfed. I got Mango from local pet shop where baby budgies are taken away from parents and sold at very young age. I knew it was not good for baby budgies but we don’t have the channel to buy from breeders directly.

Mango is precious.

It's very sad that your country allows birds to be sold at such a young age.
Budgies that remain with their bird families for at least 8 weeks and which are handled frequently are much better off both emotionally and health-wise.

Thanks for the advice. A friend of mine even called the national Authority to check whether there are any rules and regulations to define the minimum age at which the baby birds can be sold at pet shops, the answer was no.

Mango has showed signs of weaning. He/she starts to explore millet & seeds and eat less baby bird formula nowadays. I'm not sure if it is normal to wean at 4 weeks old.

Yes, babies can begin the weaning process at 4 weeks. Be sure you continue with supplemental feedings until Mango refuses them.
Babies that are weaned too early may regress.

Best wishes with your little one.

Great advice given . Sounds like you’re doing a good job under the circumstances which aren’t ideal.

Mango sure is a little cutie with the heart shaped patch . Please keep us updated. Best wishes!
