Default We did it! Baby Cisco

Hubby and I went to the Morganton Bird Show today and picked up this little gem:

https://imgur.com/xQFAyAh

She got a little wild at first, as soon as she heard a bird outside she was trying to get to the window. But now she is sleeping - probably hasn't had a moment's peace in her little life.

The cere appears to be a pale pink at this point. But the coloring is what is so pretty. She looks like sorbet.

Since this is my Hubby's bird (for his birthday), he gets to name it. He's thinking of Cisco. I was thinking of silly names like Squeek or Jingle Bell. Oh well, what are you gonna do. Hopefully the kids in school won't make fun of him.

I copied the code Imgur gave me.... do I need to delete some of it?

Why Thank You!

She woke up from her nap and went nuts. Flying from perch to perch and climbing.

She seems to be pretty obsessed with finding a way out of the cage and out the window. Which doesn't make sense to me. She's just a baby. Is it the sunlight that is attracting her? She almost seems upset. Or am I just being paranoid...

I got Techno just the other day, my first budgie, so I'm no expert, but I think they might be spooked by their surroundings. I know Techno didn't want to leave my hand when I first introduced them to their cage, they're still a bit hesitant to explore, just be patient and give them some time, I'm sure they'll acclimate in no time.

You little baby is adorable! Cisco is a great name for him/her

That's totally normal for all new budgies. It's not that they want to get outside, they're scared to be in their new environment at first and in a panic try to flee.

As she realises her cage is her "safe space", she's going to enjoy spending time there and won't panic so much.

Keep in mind you should not try to touch her or let her out of her cage for the first two weeks so she can see her cage as her safe space and feel comfortable in her environment.

In the meantime, it's always a great idea to talk to her as much as possible and sit by her, read to her, etc. so she gets familiar with you both and starts seeing you as part of her "flock"

I am. We were watching TV and she started chirping, so I chirped back but did not come into the room.

Otherwise I'm just standing by talking softly. Trying to be non-threatening. She is sitting on the floor being very quiet and still right now.

Thanks for holding my hand, everyone. I'll try to calm down.

Your new addition is beautiful, I love the pastel colors. You said she is sitting on the floor, do you have her out of the cage on the floor? If so it is not advisable to let her out so soon she could get spooked and not being familiar with her surroundings she may start flying wildly and bang into walls and windows and injure herself.

Cisco sounds good enough for the birds name. It is an easy name to remember.

No, she's in her cage. Up on one of the top branches now, falling asleep.

Covering her when night falls will be a whole new level of freak-out I'm afraid. Hopefully not...

Hi there and congrats on your new precious arrival. Cisco is a great name for a gorgeous budgie and I hope we will see a lot of him/her once s/he has settled in. To help him/her feel more secure you can cover all but the front of the cage with a sheet or something. This will help a lot as s/he wonít feel like s/he has to watch every direction for signs of danger. When you cover the cage at night if possible, plus in one of those little wall night lights (most supermarkets have them for under $10). Having a little bit of light in the cage will lessen the chance of a night fright, and if s/he does have a night fright, itíll be safer because s/he isnít in complete darkness. On top of that, I highly suggest you read all the Ďstickiesí on setting up a great cage, vet care, first aid, diet and toys. There is so much to learn and everything you need to know is right at your fingertips. Plus, everyone here is so friendly and keen to help. Congrats again on your new family member. I look forward to following your budgie journey.
