Default Does Europe ship budgies

Im not sure what category to post this in.

Does anyone here know if it is possible to ship english budgies overseas? Im curious for the future because I absolutely love the English budgies that are bred in Europe but I cannot find anything even close to that in the US. So one day when I save up the money to buy another bird I would love to have one shipped from Europe, but does anyone know if thats even possible since it's so far? I dont want to get my hopes up just to find out that it isnt possible.

It would be a very hard and long journey for a little bird to take. There are many English style budgie breeders in the US to choose from. Not to mention the US is very strict on importing and exporting birds, it would make it very difficult in regards to doing it legally.

So it would not be possible?

I already have an english budgie, but I would absolutely love a large one from Europe. I did a ton of research when trying to find my budgie and I couldnt find anyone that had the big ones. Even when I search english budgies on google, everything is the US is pretty small and slight, but just one search of birds from Europe yields a whole list of results of exactly what I would have loved. If its not possible then I'm fine with it, but if it IS possible Id start saving now.

I found that the biggest difference between US english and standard budgies is that the English ones feathers a little fluffier and their faces are a bit poofier. But then in Europe the difference is that the birds are HUGE!

As mentioned above, it would be almost impossible to get one from overseas because of the animal import restrictions.

Often times, such birds do not have a very long lifespan because the natural body type for budgies is "standard" type - English budgies have been selectively bred for these characteristics so the more exaggerated they are, the more likely it is that they will have health problems, a shorter lifespan, and more difficulty in their lives. I would look for a reputable English breeder here in the states where you can be sure you're getting a healthy baby, which is the most important part

I agree with Justmoria, I would not subject a bird to such a long journey, especially since I have heard so many horrible stories of airlines and animals. As Justmoria said, there are very strict rules on importing so it may not even be reasonably possible. Have you contacted The American Budgerigar Society https://abs1.org/ or Budgerigar Assoc. of America https://www.budgerigarassociation.com/

It is very important to keep in mind that when breeders breed to make the budgies larger and larger they are NOT as healthy.

The larger English Budgies have heads that are much too heavy for their bodies.
Nature did not intend for the birds to be "modified" to the degree that some breeders have achieved by continually breeding the largest budgies with one another.

Genetically these budgies are going to have many more healthy issues and problems and a shorter life-span.

It is unfair to the birds to continue to try to create differences in their body structures which ultimately put their health and well-being at risk.
