Default Really Thinking YES YES YES

Hello Everyone,
Well, I got totally stunned today when I saw this baby silver Budgie that is 6 weeks old at most and at a small mom and pop pet store that hand-fed this baby. It is super friendly & loves to be around you, and they will NOT sell to a breeder and scrutinized me too making sure I know how to care for it and give it a good home. It impressed me because they have A very clean pet store and super nice people. I had to wash my hands before holding the bird with some special soap they had to be sure no germs get on the baby.

I ALMOST brought this one home. I am going to "sleep on it" and they're going to hold it for me until 3 pm tomorrow.

I KNOW this baby will have to be in her own cage and I will have to DAILY spend lots of time to keep this baby sociable.

I was shocked to see how easy going this baby is. I have never seen a budgie friendly like this. The ones I see are so skittish, but not this one

I wonder, is it a male or female? I can't tell. They feed this baby zuoreem pellets, & veggies and they showed videos of them hand-feeding him when he was smaller.

I love the idea that this baby is so friendly My budgies I have now Oz and her new mate Pepper that she isn't 100% fond of are both skittish and Oz now being 5 I won't even try to tame her. She lets me pet her and hold her in her house that's about it, And Pepper the new one it scares him to come out he flutters and acts frightened I DID though make progress with Pepper as he will let me pet him IF I don't try to take him out of his cage. BUT this one at the pet store I have already named him STERLING because he is silver& is super friendly, he really loves attention.

I did step away and went home to give it a day to be 100% sure I'm going to do it. But I have never seen a budgie so friendly.
Any thoughts on this??

I will have a 2-week health guarantee and I can take it to my avian vet tomorrow (they said after 4) I can show up and they will examine him, and any issue I will get a refund. I was told they have their vet check them as thet have other birds too. But I can and would take Sterling to my vet tomorrow IF I decide to get it.

I wonder too if this is a male or female? Does anyone know?? I forgot to ask them when I was there

Wow, that's a beautiful baby, looks like a boy to me, as I see it on my computer, the cere looks to be an evenly a translucent pink. Often when you bring a new bird home it will regress a bit and what seemed to be a very tame bird in the store suddenly becomes not so tame, so if you get him do not be disappointed if that happens. You should also observe the quarantine rules and when it's time to introduce him to the others there is a protocol that should be followed, do not just put a new bird into the cage of others.

Thanks I thought it was also a baby boy. I will NOT put him with any other budgie I have. He will have his own home( cage) and not be with any other bird. I want to keep him hand friendly like he is now. If I get him, I will spend a lot of time with him so he stays super friendly.

If you get him, once he has become comfortable in your home and is fairly tame, you may find that he is a good influence on the others. Years ago I adopted 2 very tame budgies and it turned out that when my other birds saw how tame these 2 were they began to become more tame too.

What a cutie pie!!! I’m amazed you had so much restraint to not get this little sweetheart TODAY! (But I’m also glad you didn’t just rush into it too.)

I’m in agreement that this looks like a little boy. A darling, cute little boy! Wow. Truly stunning.

Don’t let me influence you but I know I’d be snatching up this little one so fast! Ones like this are few and far between. I do love all budgies, including the “wild” untamed ones (most of mine were definitely wild!) but there is an extra special something with ones like this little guy.

I can’t wait to hear if you bring him home with you! It sounds like he’d be in a great home with you.

Yes I am almost 100% with you. I just hate the 75 mile trip to get him.BUT I am so wanting him. I am hopeful he will not loose his friendliness I will spoil him like crazy. I will get tons of SAFE toys. quality pellet food and be sure to have him out of his cage alot. I have a small cage its 17 inches across 30 inches tall and 20 deep BUT I want a bigger better one. I know about bar spacing ect... I though am 99% going to get him. They are nice enough to hold him for 24 hours. IF I go I will call them tomorrow and pay over the phone so he knows I am on the way.

Your situation reminds me of when we had gotten our budgie Phoenix. He was by far the tamest one of our budgie bunch.

I went into a pet store while out of town one Saturday just to look around and saw the friendliest budgie I’d ever seen. We visited him twice that day and both times he’d come over to the side of the cage and interact with us. It was amazing!

We headed home empty handed but by the next morning, I called to pet store to tell them I wanted to get him since I couldn’t stop thinking about him! They put him on hold until my mom and I were able to pick him up on Sunday afternoon. For us, it was a two hour drive each way. It didn’t matter! We brought our travel-sized cage and away we went! He didn’t mind the long car ride at all!

Best decision ever! I loved every moment I had with him.

How exciting can't wait to see more of him, if you get him. Make sure you start him out feeding the same thing that he is being fed by the breeder. Sounds like he has had a great start to life by people that take pride in their birds.

Yes, these folks are so nice! What a CLEAN STORE... They have a vet 2 miles away that they use. I actually said ILL TAKE HIM , but then thought I better be 100% sure take a breath and think first. This is why I went home without him.But I have been reading all night about hand-fed babies and how rare they are. I am over 50 and do not care if it ever talks, I do though want a budgie that will hop up, come out and be sociable. In order to do that, I know this little guy will have to be housed alone and spend a few hours a day out with me.

Mark,

I too agree that Sterling is a boy.

I'd definitely go get little Sterling if I were in your position.
75 miles does seem like much since I drove over 8 hours one way each time I went to pick up my budgies!!

I see you're in the Tampa area.
I'm living Mt. Dora. I'd love for you to send a Private Message letting me know where this Mom and Pop shop is located.
It sounds like a place I'd like to visit at some future date.

Best wishes with darling little Sterling.
I'll be looking forward to lots of posts about him and pictures of him once you get him home.
