Default Sam and Eddie antics

Sam the fighter fish and Eddie the snail have both given me frights today!

First I look into the tank and see sam lying on his side squished between a plant and an ornament- I was so worried he was dying I stuck my net in there to check on him and he swam away

his since decided sleeping/resting under plants and in ornaments is fun!

Then tonight I turned around to look at the tank and see Eddie the mystery snail floating!!

I thought when snails floated it meant they were dead and nearly had a heart attack! so I pulled him out of the tank and sat him on the cover glass and he poked his head out a tiny bit...
I also have read that they can drown if they are floating in the water..

I ended up putting him back in and he floated around in circles until he poked himself out let an air bubble out then spiralled back to the ground where he then came out as normal and went back to his normal snail self...

Eddie has also taken to climbing plants today

his actually quite a fast mover

thank you Lyn I'm glad you like him, I feel silly to love a fish so much but I am already very attached to him and hope he likes his tank and is happy. they are great to watch swim around! when you get one you must show me pictures

Fish are relaxing to watch when you are under a lot of stress it calms the nerves down someone told me this... I am going home next Saturday I can't wait the carpet is going done next Wednesday then the carpet people put your things back on Thursday and Friday then next Saturday ill be home in my own bed ill sleep a week I am just so tied from a strange hard bed that is like a rock...... Do you need a heater for your fish I've got one.. Do they need a pump.. I don't think it is silly to love a fish they have to be cared for just like our birds we love dearly..

I know you will be relieved to be back in your own bed Lyn, that would be very tiring!

Fighting fish are quite easy to look after, they do need a tank with at least 15 litres (but lots of people keep them in smaller ones) they also need a heater.. while they can survive without one they won't live as long or be happy especially in winter! A filter is optional, as long as you do water changes weekly and an air pump is also optional.. I have one running in mine at the moment but I don't leave it on 24/7

I love your betta, Sarah. He is so beautiful. I have one, his name is Finn, and he is all red.
It is better if they have a filter, or you are going to be changing water all the time, believe me. They just tend to tear their fins easily on sharp edges of rocks and plants, so when you decorate the tank, make sure things are smooth. Also, they love to sleep and rest on the bottom or in hollow spaces, or on a leaf!
Lyn, I would love to see your betta when you get it.

Sam and Eddie are adorable. Don't worry, Sam's sleeping and hiding places are normal. Bettas always have weird places they try to squeeze into to sleep. Zazu squeezed behind the filter the first few days I had him; he was so tiny that he couldn't even get stuck. Hmm, come to think of it, he's behind the filter again.

Eddie's floating is also normal, no worries there either. If they want to float, they float. Then when they don't want to float anymore, they just release that air bubble they were holding in, and then drop down. Mine sometimes drop down just for fun. I have two snails now, and one loves to climb everything. The other one learned the art of digging so now I have holes all over the place. It looks like I have a little, underwater puppy that hasn't learned that digging is a no-no.

haha Eddie loves to climb things too! I find it so funny to watch him climbing up the to the very top of this fake plant that is attached to an ornament and then he goes sliding back down !
