Default Spaghetti with Octopus

Hey guys! Do you like seafood? I love octopus and I cooked it today, my family loves it! It's not so difficult to make and I am sure you'll like it! I'll post a photo later.

Amount for 6 people

We'll need:
1 cleaned octopus, thawed or 5-6 little ones (1 kg more or less)
3 tomatoes in cubes
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp basil or mint
1 big onion cleaned and cut in cubes
1 red pepper, cubed (optional)
1 tbsp vinegar
2 laurel leaves
oregano
olive oil
salt and pepper
500 gr spaghetti or linguine

Dry the octopus with a paper towel. Then put some olive oil in a big pan and saute the onion, until lightly brown.Add the pepper slices too. Add the octopus and saute for 5 minutes. Don't stir it, just leave it there. The octopus' mass will be gradually reduced during those 5 minutes. Add the vinegar, sugar, tomato, basil, laurel, oregano and pepper. Leave the food in low heat for 40-50 minutes. In the end of the cooking time, the octopus should be tender and and its thick parts can be pierced with a fork. Also, the sauce will be less watery. Take a big plate and cut all octopus in pieces like bites. Put back the pieces in the pan and remove from the heat. Add salt as desired.
Meanwhile, boil the spaghetti in a large pot of salted water for 10'-13'.
Serve the octopus sauce over the spaghetti. Enjoy!

It sounds so delicious!! Cooking an octopus is an art because if you cook it a minute too long, it's too rubbery. I am sure you are a pro at it, Despina
I would love to try this recipe, but I am not sure how expensive octopus is around here

I know what you mean Dee I've tried many recipes and the result was a rubbery octopus- I was so angry This one gave us really tender octopus and I was surprised! I also cooked 5 little ones instead of a big one. The recipe says that is for one big octopus 1kg. It's a little expensive here too, 7-9 euros for one kilo of octopus! But it's a delicious meal
People make it here with wine, tomato sauce or baked on the grill, served with vinegar-salt-olive oil and ouzo of course
Here's a picture of the meal - I am sorry but the food I made was eaten in seconds and I didn't manage to get a picture!
??????? ???????? ? ???????

I love octopus. Living in the desert here it is hard to find though. Like you said, if I do find it it is very pricey $$$$$. I will look for some and try this though as all of your recipes have been terrific so far.

Thank you Rick, I hope you like it! You can make this recipe and use 1kg squids instead of octopus, also!
