Cool Animal-Friendly Pea Soup

Okay, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link, but I don't see why I wouldn't be, seeing as this recipe had been posted on a recipe website in order to share with others the joys of delicious soup.

Anyways, as a vegetarian, I'm known for my weaknesses (pulled pork, spare ribs, roast beef sandwiches). One of them happens to be pea soup. Now, I'm not a soup person, but who can resist this salty, protein-filled soup packed full of delicious chunks of ham? Well, I can't, and I always end up hating myself after shovelling down my fourth bowl of soup that day.

Anyways, I decided to look for a vegan pea soup recipe so that I don't have to have a crisis of conscience after gorging myself on some delicious soup. Well, I managed to find an extremely easy, quick recipe that is very good. Honestly, I've cooked less than a dozen times in my life (hey, you can't blame a person for being lazy), yet I made a big pot of it all by myself. Okay, so I had my mom purée it, but who's counting.

Anyways, this pea soup is Robyn certified! I love flesh, but it comes from animals. Basically, I'm a vegetarian who loves meat, but dislikes fruits and veggies. My very existence is a conundrum.

Anyways, if I like this soup, you guys should too. Even diehard meat-lovers. However, you'll want to quintuple up on the amount of salt that the recipe calls for. Here's the link:

Vegetarian Split Pea Soup Recipe | Taste of Home

On a side note, I found that when I ate it on the day that I made it, it tasted a lot like peas. I know, shocking, pea soup that tastes like peas. But pea soup shouldn't taste like you've heated up a bowl of pea baby food. Anyways, by the next day, the disgusting flavour of healthy plant orbs went away. Okay, maybe I'm just sensitive, because my parents had no clue what I was talking about. They went back for seconds, and thirds, so I guess you can just ignore what I said.

I'm about as a devout vegetarian as you are, Robyn! I love split pea soup--and not to be an enabler, but sometimes I even add big thick chunks of bacon along with the ham

Thanks for sharing this recipe, I'll be sure to try it on the (only) vegetarian day of the week (see, I do try. For 24 hours )

Hey, if I post enough recipes, I'll make you a devout vegetarian yet! Next, I should try some different black bean burger recipes then post my favourite on here. I found this one yummy looking recipe that has corn, peppers, carrot, and other delectable ingredients. Okay, so I'm not a fan of bell pepper, or corn, or carrots even, but this recipe looks good. I have to have my veggies provided in very specific ways if I'm to enjoy them.

Oh! I'll also have to try making meatloaf from Yves' Veggie Ground Round! It is absolutely delicious vegan meat <3. The texture, look, and flavour are all very good. You can use it to replace ground hamburg in absolutely any recipe.

If the meatloaf turns out well, which I'm sure it will, I'll have to post the recipe! My mom makes this delicious chilli sauce, and it's so good with the meatloaf! I think Americans use ketchup for their meatloaf, which seems kind of yucky. Hmm, guess I'll have to post Mom's chilli sauce recipe, too. Anyways, nothing beats a plateful of meatloaf with chili sauce and whipped potatoes.

Oh! Try Earth Balance butter! It's this vegan butter that I thought I'd try a few months back, and I haven't used cow butter since. The Earth Balance tastes nearly identical to dairy butter. And remember, I hate margarine, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and other faux butters. This stuff is actually really good. It's made from various plant oils, but is healthier than both faux and traditional butters.

Oh, and don't you dare add any bacon to the recipe, Starling !

If you ever want to try going full-vegetarian, you'll have to go at least two months without touching meat. Meat is actually addictive, so if you don't make sure it's out of your system before having even a tiny bite of it again, you'll be right back where you started. I've been a vegetarian for almost two years now, and one of the ways I'm able to stick with it is by allowing myself to gorge on flesh once or twice a month in order to avoid going into full bloodlust. After I've feasted (and died a little inside), I'm able to go several more weeks before needing a refill.

i have had split peas in the pantry for 6 months with the intention of trying to make soup. You have given me the inspiration to get on with it! My only question in your recipe is about the cumin - how strongly does it affect the taste? Too much asian spice plays havoc with my digestion!

Thank you for a great post to shake up my procrastination!

Yes, pea soup definitely causes gas, so you might not want to eat it before going to work . As for the cumin, my mom says it probably gives the soup a little more depth. The recipe makes a decent sized dish, so hopefully the cumin wouldn't cause you any problems. You could probably leave out the cumin if you're worried, and add some liquid smoke or Bragg's amino acids to give it a meatier taste.
