Millet spray stalk (may sound silly but I will ask)

Jay has recently started enjoying chewing the stick on the end of the millet spray. I know then eat the seeds and bits but is he on to chew the stick or should I discourage this?

I did put sticks in but he didn't like it so I'm slowly introducing him to natural sticks, I am also looking for some long ones like the ones that came with the cage. They seem another good option
