Hello,

New to this forum and wanted to say hello. We have not yet named them as we are a bit unsure of their sex. I’m a bit afraid we picked a bow and girl, but again unsure. This is not my first go-round with birds. Many years ago I had a budgie and then upgraded to a conure. I had to rehome the conure because I had no time for him as a touring musician. Now that life has settled over the years, my wife and I decided to bring home these two beautiful budgies.

Hi, Welcome to Talk Budgies!

From what I can see, you do have a male and a female. They are adorable little ones!
Close-up, in-focus pictures of their ceres, taken in natural light would be helpful for an accurate determination.

With a mixed gender pair, you will need to do everything necessary to prevent breeding.

I do appreciate the warm welcome. Yes I feel like this time around is a bit different, mainly based on have 2 at a time and the fact that they are opposite sex.

It’s pretty amazing how quickly they are getting adjusted. I think it helps that I can whistle like them. They perk up and start joining in the fun. I also will throw human words in between my tweets so they can hear my true voice. They come running hanging on the side of the cage when I do.

I was wondering how old they look to you all. I don’t have the knowledge to determine.

I’ll provide more shots tomorrow when the natural day light comes back.

You can only tell the age of budgies by looking at them if it is before their first molt; both your little ones are still babies as their “baby bars” still to all the way down to their nose, indicating they have not had their first moult yet. Therefore I can see they are below 8 months old, probably around 6-7!
