A Trek into the Wilderness...

Well, I haven't been around as much lately--School has started and it's hectic!

I wanted to take a moment to give you (and myself) a small visit to the Rocky Mountains, which we live 45 min. away from :)

Enjoy!

First, we stop at my favorite coffee shop: Coffee on the Rocks, which looks out at a beautiful lake full of ducklings and fresh mountain air. The cobblestone paths are sprinkled with colourful wildflowers, and there is no sound but that of a breeze in the pines and aspens.

After a breakfast of hot chai tea and an breakfast sandwich on ciabatta, we walk over to the adjacent rock shop, which is surrounded by flowers and beautiful crystals. There is a small garden of petrified wood which has accumulated small microclimates:

Inside, there are dimly-lit geodes and exotic rocks that shimmer when you pass by.

After the stop at the glittering rock shop, we take a short ride deep into the mountains, where we can hike up to some beautiful waterfalls and refreshing spots for a picnic.

As you hike back to your car in the late afternoon, a patch of red berries catches your eye...

I hope this relaxed you a bit during this busy time! Thank you for watching :D

Awesome pic's young lady, thank's for sharing with us. I absolutely love black duck's, and think a mature drake, while viewed by many as plain, is the most handsome of all duck's...:)

Aww, such beautiful scenery and this is the kind of place where I'd wanna retire. I can just taste the Rocky Mountain air and springs from these pix.:)

Btw, what kind of rock is that you're holding? From first glance of its color and shape, it looked like a giant Hershey's Kiss.:giggle::p

Thanks Nick :D I believe it is some sort of "Peacock Ore" which is actually called Bornite? I'm not sure on this one :p

It would be a great place to retire

What beautiful scenery and such a perfect place for a picnic. I bet that water was icy cold and would be just perfect for chilling any drinks you may have with you. This is what we used to do when we would go for a horse ride and picnic day. Tie some string around the neck of the bottle and suspend it in the water just below a small waterfall. Would chill it to perfection.

The pond with the ducks looks so calm and peaceful and the ducks are just so cute. And the rocks are lovely with all the different colours. Love the petrified wood micro-climate garden.

I loved the ducks, too, they were so funny! When taking the picture, I got within 2 feet of them, which took about 15 minutes since I was walking so slowly :giggle: It's like taming a flock of budgies!
The photos are beautiful! Thanks for sharing,Gigi!:)

You are one very talented young lady Star. Those pictures are beautifully captured, especially the ducks it reminded me of the clutch I found on the road and brought home. I raised them from tiny little babies to fully grown ducks that cam back to visit me year after year and laid their own eggs here in my garden then waddled off to our pond with the babies.
The water is so clear and clean looking in water fall pictures, I too love crystals I have a few little geodes . Thankyou for that lovely little break .:happy4::ranger:
That thread was really relaxing Geneva!! I love your pictures and I think you're very talented! :)
I also love rocks and I collect rocks with crystals and everything that's strange enough to catch my eye :)
The ducks are adorable!! Thank you for sharing this mini-trip! :)
