So this Tuesday is Australia's biggest horse race The Melbourne cup , it is 153 years old ! It is run at Flemington race course it has lovely rose gardens and everyone stops to watch the race. We always have a cup lunch at work everyone brings a plate of food to share, we record the actual race as we are all still teaching when the race is run. The ladies dress up and wear a hat we have funny little competitions for the best hat and outfit.!
But the most fun part is the sweep!!! Everyone puts in money and you are allocated a horse in the race and then they are off!!!!!!!!!! Very exciting.

I will check out the race, at least the results of this race. Sounds like your race there is similiar to the Kentucky Derby in the United States every May. I like horses and horse racing.

I love the Melbourne Cup because we get a public holiday. For a horse race!!! No complaints here.

I love the Melbourne Cup.. The Hole Nation in Australia stops work to watch the Melbourne Cup everyone who works stops to watch the race.. It is the biggest Horse race in Australia.. They even Transport Horses from overseas to take part in the race.. We have horses from England Ireland America Japan Canada New Zealand etc these are a few of the countries i can think of at the moment that will be running in our famous horse race.. The big horse race the Melbourne Cup will be telecasted all over the world.. I always have a go on the Melbourne Cup and put a tiny bit on the sweep just for fun to join in and you can get dressed up with fancy hats and your best dress and shoes.. I will be watching it at home on our big screen... Even the Residents at the nursing homes get dressed up and put in for there sweeps so they get a bit of fun to they don't feel left out.. Cathy i hope i pick out the winning horse it is a lot of fun trying to pick out the right horse i always go for the jockey or the well knowen horse owners when i pick out a horse for the day..Hear is a photo of the Melbourne Cup Horses that ran one year.. Good Idea lyn, I always have a bet on the race this is the only gambling I ever do! I have been quite lucky in the past! I have also done well from the sweep done at work a couple of times we always give a prize for the last horse home as well. My favourite numbers are 2,6,9 15.:budgie:

Hey Cathy.... I only do this to once a year to when the Melbourne Cup is on we have to join in the fun... Lucky it is only once a year but it comes up to fast I only pick out one horse and put $5 for first and $5 for second place with the same horse... I have been quite lucky to in the past picking out the first and second place. Damian Oliver there is another one can't think of his name right now... I hope you get a win Cathy...
