Bertie: The Princess of Wales Parrot (ongoing thread)

So I just put a deposit on a 6 month old baby boy. Hand raised/fed and socialized since birth from a reputable breeder. Will get him after Thanksgiving. Scoured all over the US for one given how rare they are here.

I’ll post updates as I go along through this adoption process. 😊

This is what one looks like for those unfamiliar

Beautiful, does the bird have to be shipped to you or are you picking it up? How is the new cage working out?

Are you sure the bird you are getting is a male?

That's great, the breeder did a great job socializing him, better this way than terrified of everything.

Soon he will want to bathe there if he hasn't already.

For a bird his size you can just use a pie plate filled with water and see if he in interested, or are you are looking for something that attaches to the cage?

He loves it.
that is bathing behavior right there.
I agree, he could fly away if he did not like it.

Brings Bertie a new toy from pet store…

Me: here Bertie, I got you a new play toy!

Bertie: I can haz it eat it? No?!? Meh.

gives me a cute but snide look

I used to have a budgie that used to play that game, let's see how many times I can get my human to pick up the toy :ROFLMAO:

I think he was impressed with the bird in the mirror and got happy when he found him in the breadbox as well :ROFLMAO:

Try putting a skin tone bandage over the mole, maybe if he does not see it for awhile he will forget about it, or as an extreme measure have the mole removed o_O

If you plan on having millet on that perch often you can drill a very small diameter hole through it and then stick the stem side of the millet through it and you won't have to use tape. I did that with a tree that I built for the birds and it works well.

They just want you to know that they are really in charge and not you

Some sprouts coming up from our attempt at home-grown millet. If you look carefully, there’s a curious parrot in there somewhere.

Bertie is eyeing those tiny sprouts 🧐
